the fun-hating hellhound despite its namesake has no real connection to hell, it is actually a denizen of the elemental plane of fire. it looks like a demonic dog, is rust red or red-brown in color, and generally has flames coming out of its face
Culture
the hellhound is normally able to live off the fire from the elemental plane of fire but when outside of said plane the hellhound can make-do with meat. when wild the hellhound acts how you expect any wolf, except it breaths fire
while a common pet for evil creatures such as fire giants the hellhound itself is just an animal and has no concept of good and evil. as a pet the domesticated hellhound is loyal beyond compare, and even moments after meeting its master is already prepared to lay down its life to protect him.
hellhounds are serious creatures and if they feel joy they never show it. they are always on the lookout dedicated to whatever task is at hand or, if there isnt any, finding one. a master that wishes to play with their hellhound will find it staring at them in confusion
hellhounds are incredibly intelligent animals able to understand orders theve never heard before as if they spoke the language and follow them perfectly. the hellhound is also incredibly vigilant this viligence manifest acts as if it has truesight even though it doesnt. enemies that are hidden in darkness or perfectly camouflaged will be sweating bullets if a hellhound is near since it has a 50% chance of seeing them anyway. and for invisible people it will know your there but have a difficult time telling exactly where so it will look for very slight ripples in the air to try and attack
in combat a hellhound will breath fire when far away until it is nearby once it is nearby it will bite, a hellhound can bite and breath fire at the same time. unless ordered by a master a hellhound will always try to fight in melee combat
