Adams, William

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of William Adams for a grant of 200 acres of land in Township No. Fort Erie (sic: Willoughby) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 100 acres in Lot 18 Concession 3 in the Township of Willoughby. (Willoughby Township Papers 0238)

On 2 May 1797 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for William Adams for 100 acres of land in Lot 18 Concession 3 Willoughby Twp. (Willoughby Township Papers 0236)

On 24 Oct 1798 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to William Adams for 100 acres of land in Lot 18 Concession 3 Willoughby Twp. as per 59th Claim Niagara Commission 1803 (Willoughby Township Papers 0241)

Allen, Isaac H.

On 21 Aug 1860 James W. Fell, Provincial Land Surveyor sent to the Commission of Crown Lands a plan showing the position and extent of the water lot applied for by I. H. Allen in connection with the government survey of the township lots in front of which it is situated. He noted there is no occupation or improvement on the lot counter to Mr. Allen. Fell judged that Allen at considerable expense built docking along a portion of his front to prevent the road from being washed away, as this is a point that washes very fast if not protected. Aster, Peter

On 7 Jul 1798 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Samuel Street for 800 acres of land transferred from Philip Stedman, Nathan Wheeler, Peter Aster, George Scarlet, D Wm. Johnston, Samuel Cox, Peter Colerick and Peter Larraway being part of 1200 acres granted personally to the said Samuel Street Esquire in Lots 18, 19, 20 and part of 21, 22, 23 Concession 1 with the broken fronts 19, 20, 21, 22 and 23 and Lots 19 and 20 in the Second Concession Willoughby Twp. plus other lands totalling about 4600 acres (Willoughby Township Papers 0190)


Barns, Stephen

On 18 Aug 1832 Stephen Barns of Willoughby, farmer promised to pay Samuel Street Esquire, Executor of the Estate of Samuel Street Esquire, deceased on order four hundreds Provincial Currency in four equal payments for the occupancy for one year from the date hereof of the John Shainholtz lot so known being No. 14—4th Concession Township of Willoughby and to surrender the same at any time before the [……] of the year provided the said Samuel Street should sell no wood or timber to be on it but for the use of the premises and for fuel. Beam, Abraham

On 12 Apr 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Abraham for a grant of 200 acres of land in the Township of Fort Erie (sic: Willoughby) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith who assigned to him 180 acres in Lot 19 in front and rear of front in Willoughby Township. (Willoughby Township Papers 0187)

On 12 Apr 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Jonathan and Grace Stanton for a grant of 200 acres of land and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land in the Township of Fort Erie (sic: Willoughby). The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith who assigned to them 200 acres in Lots 8 and 9 in the Township of Fort Erie (sic: Willoughby) with the broken land on the river containing about twenty acres being in all about 270 acres. Notes of the Acting Surveyor General: These lots pm the plan he received from the Surveyor Generals Office, Quebec, are No. 17 and 18 near Black Creek. The within named Jonathan Stanton having by deed of sale disposed of his share of the within specified Lots No. 8 and 9 in the Township of Fort Erie in favor and behalf of Abram Beam to receive for him the said Grace Stanton a deed or certificate from the Board for his proportion of said lots and the Board have this day in consequence transferred both lots to said Abram Beam. Bearss, David

Undated memo stating Mr. Hardison will inquire for a grant of one hundred acres of land left in [Acting Surveyor Genenal D. W.] Smith’s office belonging to David “Barss” and lay it on Number 3 in the third Concession in the town of Willoughby. (Willoughby Township Papers 0221)


Beiers, Anna

On 21 Apr 1806 Anna Beiers of Willoughby Twp., widow appointed John Dellor of the Town of York her true and lawful attorney to receive patents and title deeds which shall or may issue in her name for Lots one and two in the Second Concession containing two hundred acres. Anna Beiers made her mark in the presence of Mahlon Burwell. (Willoughby Township Papers 0195)


Bennett, Joshua

On 6 Nov 1801 John Fanning wrote to Acting Surveyor General David Wm. Smith asking if there is a deed made out for Joshua Bennet (sic) for two hundred acres of land in the Township of Willoughby Lots No. 10 in the 6 Concession and Lot No 13 in the 7 Concession. Lot No. 13 formerly owned by Jacob Boughner. The improvement sold to Christian Hendricks and from Hendricks to Joshua Bennet of this place. After Bennet purchased from Hendrick he petitioned to the Council for land. He requested a grant of two hundred acres of land and then laid his right on those two lots of land. He requested the deed. Boughner, Henry Sr.

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Henry “Bougener” Senr. for a grant of 200 acres of land in Township No. 1 above Chippeway and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 200 acres in Lots 8 and 9 Concession 7 in the Township (Willoughby Township) (Willoughby Township Papers 0352)

On 6 Nov 1801 John Fanning wrote to Acting Surveyor General David Wm. On 12 Mar 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Peter “Bougener” for a grant of 200 acres of land in Township No. 1 above Chippeway and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 100 acres in Lot 12 Concession 7 in the Township No. 1 above Chippeway (Willoughby Township) (Willoughby Township Papers 0356)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Peter “Bougener” for 100 acres of land in Lot 12 Concession 7 Willoughby Twp. as per Land Board Certificate of 12 Mar 1792. (Willoughby Township Papers 0361)

On 15 May 1797 Peter “Buchner” swore before Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith that he never received any lands in this Province except Lot No. 12 Concession 7 in No. 1 above Chippeway and a warrant for 100 acres in addition. Peter Buchner made his mark. (Willoughby Township Papers 0359)


Bowen, Cornelius

On 27 Apr 1795, John Warren J. P., John Powell J. P. and Parshall Terry J. P. certified that Lots 10 and 11 Concession 1 Willoughby Twp. lying on the River between Black Creek and Fort Chippawa now occupied by James Brown and Thomas Cummings, never were owned or occupied by Christian Jacobs. The first men that began to work and improve said lots were a Christian Duggan and Jeremiah Gregory. Duggan disposed of his improvement to James Brown, and Gregory having absconded to avoid being brought to justice for theft, his creditors obtained leave to dispose of his improvement, which was purchased by Mr. Cummings. The creditors were satisfied. The writers believed Moses, the son of said Gregory, now being with Mr. Weishuhn, received something besides. The writers were well acquainted with the improvements made by Christian Jacobs. The first was made on the Lot number five in the Township of Bertie on the River which is now occupied by Cornelius Bowen. His other improvements were made three miles up the Chippawa on the north side. They are now owned by John McEwen but as to his ever having any right or claim to the Lots 10 and 11, the writers were confident is a mistake. (Willoughby Township Papers 0143)

On 5 Apr 1792 the Land Board read the petition of William Burns for a grant of 200 acres of land in Township No. 1 above Chipewa (Willoughby) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 200 acres in Lot 14 Concession 1 in Township No. 1 above Chipewa (Willoughby Township). Written below: No. 14 in the 1st Concession Township No. One above Chipewas Creek with the land in front of said Lot No. 14 (Willoughby Township Papers 0165)
