Edwards, Joseph

On 28 May 1801 Joseph Edwards wrote to Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout requesting a certificate for Lot 67 in the Town of Niagara being the place where he now lives in order to lay it before the Commissioners. Signed Joseph Edwards. (Niagara Town Papers 0385)

On 11 Aug 1822, William Claus wrote to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout stating he has made inquiries respecting Lot No. 281. It appears the late Mr. Johnson Butler got the lot from the original nominee and sold it to the late Joseph Edwards who sold it to the late James White for the consideration of fifty dollars. It has been in the possession of the family since 1809. Previous to this it was occupied by Mr. Powell by permission of Mr. Edwards and he knew its being in possession of one [……..] in 1798 previous to Claus leaving York. Claus would make application to His Excellency in Council on behalf of the widow and family to confirm the lot to them. (Niagara Town Papers 0229)


Eedson, Thomas

On 7 Jan 1851 Henry Smith, Crown Lands Agent for the Counties of Lincoln, Welland and Haldimand gave a receipt to Thomas Eedson for two pounds four shillings currency, being the first instalment on Clergy Reserve Lot number 268 in the Town of Niagara containing one acre sold to him for the sum of twenty pounds ten shillings currency upon condition of paying one tenth of the purchase money down and the remainder in nine annual instalments of two pounds four shillings each with interest on each instalment as it becomes due, the first of which instalments to fall due and be payable on the first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two. On 5 Jun 1851 Thomas Eedson of Niagara, carpenter sold for twenty-two pounds ten shillings to William Bowers Winterbottom of the same place, Esquire Lot No. 268 in the Town of Niagara. Signed Thomas Eedson. Witnessed by Isaac Henry Johnson, W. Claus. (Niagara Town Papers 1172)


Ellis, John

On 3 Dec 1798 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to ­­­­­John Ellis for one acre in Lot 375 in the Town of Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 0382)


Farquharson, James

On 1 Dec 1794 the Land Board read the petition of James Farquharson for a grant of one-half acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 58. Added note of the Land Board dated 23 Aug 1794 on the reverse: The Land Board having been petitioned to transfer the within lot to James Farquarson do hereby consent to the transfer and it is accordingly transferred. Fields, Charles

On 20 Mar 1800 John Hays sold to Charles Fields of the Town of West Niagara the house formerly occupied by Capt. Tacheston with ten pounds New York Currency. Hayes will make over Lot 115 and the improvements thereon. John Hays and Judy Hays made their marks witnessed by Charles Fields and Rosana Fields (her mark). Isaac McMichal original nominee proved to have sold to John Hay who sells to Charles Field who sells to John Stewart and allowed to John Stewart. (Niagara Town Papers 0473)

On 2 Aug 1802 Charles Fields issued a receipt to Mr. John Stewart for the sum of thirty-two pounds NYC on account of Lot No. one hundred and fifteen in Niagara sold to John Stewart. Signed Charles Fields. (Niagara Town Papers 1028)


Fitzgerald, James

On 23 Aug 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Alexander McNabb for a grant of one-half acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 59. Added note of the Land Board on the reverse dated 23 Aug 1794: The Land Board having been petitions to transfer the within lot to James Fitzgerald do hereby consent to the transfer. On 17 Aug 1795 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of John Cane stating the petitioner to be possessed of Lot No. 25 in the Township of Newark which was formerly granted to the late James Fitzgerald praying the Council to order the petitioner to be confirmed thereon. The Council ordered the same to be granted and referred to the Surveyor General. (Niagara Town Papers 0168)

On 11 Nov 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for James Fitzgerald for one-half acre of land in Lot No. 57 on Queen Street in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0435)

On 13 Oct 1842 Surveyor General Thomas Parke prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Mary Anne McAuliffe of the City of Cork, Ireland wife of John McAuliffe, and Catharine Fitzgerald of the Town of Niagara, spinster, daughters and co-heiresses of Patrick Fitgerald deceased, eldest brother and heir of James Fitzgerald also deceased, for one-half acre of land in Lot No. 57 on the north side of Queen Street in the Town of Newark under the 30th Claim Commissioners Report No. 2 in Jul 1842. Fletcher, Alexander

On 17 May 1802 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to Alexander Fletcher of the Township of Niagara, yeoman for Lot No. 320 on John Street in the Town of Niagara as per an Order in Council dated 16 Feb 1799. (Niagara Town Papers 0406)


Forsyth, George

On 7 Dec 1793 the Land Board read the petition of George Forsyth for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 31. (Niagara Town Papers 0397)

On 26 Aug 1805 George Forsyth wrote to Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout requesting a search of owners’ names on the Town Map for Lots 229 and 200. Signed George Forsyth. (Niagara Town Papers 0398)

On 31 Dec 1853 James Butler of the Town of Niagara appeared before John [Jameson], J. P. and made oath that he was acquainted in the year 1807 with Mary Ann Forsyth daughter and only child of the late George Forsyth merchant of the said Town who died on the 15th Sep 1806. The said Mary Ann Forsyth as heir at law of the said George Forsyth came into possession of Lot 199 in the said Town of Niagara which she has held from the period when the deponent first became acquainted with her (about 36 years since) until assigned over to John L. Almas merchant of said Town by her surviving trustee and attorney James Bell Forsyth, Esq. dated 12 Sep 1852. (Niagara Town Papers 0401)

On 29 Nov 1854 John L. Almas wrote to W. H. Lee, Chief Clerk of The Executive Council of Upper Canada, Esquire that Lot 199 in the Town of Niagara has been assigned to him (but for which a patent has not been issued) having been assigned to him for a valuable consideration by Miss. Mary Ann Forsyth in whose possession it has been for more than 40 years. He requested all papers connected with the said lot to the Heir and Devisee Court. He intends claiming it at its next sitting in January 1855. (Niagara Town Papers 0403)


Fortier, Peter Michel

On 21 Dec 1793 the Land Board read the petition of Peter Michel Fortier for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 37. Note of the Land Board dated 21 Dec 1793 on the reverse: The within named Lot No. 37 is hereby transferred to Andrew Heron. (Niagara Town Papers 0410, 0411)
