Turney, John (Lieut.)

On 10 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Lieut. John Turney for a grant of 200 acres of land in the Township No. 3 (Grantham) and found him qualified for a grant of 200 acres. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 22 Concessions 8 and 9 in the Township of No. 3. Added note of the Land Board dated April 6th 1791 on the reverse: Lt. John Turney having this day petitioned the Board for leave to assign the within lots to his son George Turney, we do hereby confirm the said transfer and direct the Lots 22 in the 8th & 9th Concession of Township No. 3 to stand in the name and remain the property of the said George Turney. Further note of Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith dated 30 Jul 1794: On the 30th day of June 1794 at Newark, I did assign the Lots No. 22 in the 8 & 9 Concessions of Township No. 3 in the District of Nassau, containing 200 acres, being 20 chains by fifty each, to John Turney Senr. under Land Board Certificate of the 18 Jany 1791 on which Certificate it was noted “No. 22 assigned to his son George.” The assignments bearing Numbers 108 and 109. Vanalstine, Jacob

On 26 Mar 1795 Jacob Van Alstine aged 32, born in Albany, blacksmith appeared before John Small and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. On 26 Mar 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Jacob Van Alstine for 200 acres of land in Lots 1 and 2 Concession 5 in the Township of Grantham. Assignment of Jacob Vanalstine on the reverse: I do hereby assign all my right and title to the two lots mentioned in this certificate to the Rev. R. Addison his heirs or assigns and do bind myslf under the penalty of forty pounds to get him a grant from the Atty. Genl. Or apply to the Hon. Council for permission to transfer the same as shall best please the said Mr. Addison who has this day purchased the same & paid me for them the sum of sixteen pounds. Signed Jacob Vanalstine. On 20 Jul 1803 Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Jacob Vanalstine of Grantham Twp., farmer for 100 acres of land in Lot 13 Concession 7 in the Township of Grantham under the 18 Claim Niagara Commission 1803, Benjamin Smith original nominee. Wright, Samuel and Phillis

On 2 Jul 1829 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to ­­­­­Alexander Nickerson of the Township of Grantham, yeoman for one hundred acres in Lot 14 Concession 7 Grantham Twp. in consideration of his having furnished decent and comfortable support to Phillis Wright, widow of Samuel Wright until her decease. The said lot of land having been granted to the said Samuel Wright, now deceased, by Letters Patent bearing date 12th June 1798, which have lately reverted to the Crown in default of heirs, as appears by an inquest of the office taken at the said Township of Grantham on the 8th day of June 1829.
