Goring, Francis

On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Francis Goring for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 178 and 179 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0695)

On 23 Aug 1796 Elijah Collard certified that he did nor or ever had any right, title or claim to Lot 178 in the Township of Newark (Niagara) in the possession of Mr. Francis Goring, neither did he have any ticket or certificate for the said Lot No. 178. Gray, Robert I. D. (Esquire)

On 7 May 1799 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Robert I. D. Gray Esqr. by purchase from the assignment of W. B. Sheehan for 300 acres of land. On 17 May 1799, John Small, Secretary of the Council wrote to Surveyor General D. W. Smith ordering a survey of three hundred acres in Lots No. 19 Concession 1, No. 28 Concession 2 and Lot 65 Concession 3 by purchase from the assignment of Walter Butler Sheehan. On 25 Aug 1801 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to R. I. D. Gray Esq. for Lots No. 19 Concession 1, No. 28 Concession 2 and Lot 65 Concession 3 transferred by a military assignment from Walter Butler Sheehan. (Niagara Township Papers 0009)


Haines, Joseph Sr.

On 31 Mar 1795 Joseph Haines Senr. aged 68, born in States, farmer appeared before John Small and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. On the same date Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 154 and 170 Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0619)


Haines, Nathaniel

On 14 Jun 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Nathaniel Haines for a grant of one hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive one hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith who on 31 Mar 1795 assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 153 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0614)

Hamilton, Robert

On 18 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Robert Hamilton for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 100 acres in Lot 20 Concession 6 in the Township of No. 3. (Niagara Township Papers 0037)

Harris, Henry

On 14 Jun 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Nathaniel Harris for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 171 and 172 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0671)

On 22 Jan 1797 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Henry Harris for one hundred acres of land in Lot 159 Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0628)

On 17 Jan 1795 Henry Harris aged 29, born in Ulster County, farmer appeared before John Small and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. On the same date Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 159 Newark (Niagara) Twp. Marginal note: The bearer is a discharged soldier from Col. Heron, Andrew

On 7 May 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Andrew Heron for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 150 acres in Lots 66 and 67 in the Township of No. 1. Added note: The west end of Lot No. 67 was sold and is the property of Philip Bellinger. Marginal note: Newark—150 Beverly—50 Total—200. (Niagara Township Papers 0310)

On 14 Dec 1793 the Land Board read the petition of Andrew Heron for a grant of half an acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) in the Township No. 1 and found him qualified to receive Town Lot No. 34. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 12 and 13 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0184)

On 21 Mar 1797 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Andrew Heron of Niagara Twp., yeoman for Lot 26 Concession 2 Niagara Twp. transferred by [Debor] Guthrie. (Niagara Township Papers 0011)

On 4 May 1799 Andrew Heron filed a claim on the east half of Lot No. 67 in the Township of Newark only—the other half of the Lot is claimed by Philip Bellinger. Singed Andrew Heron. Added note: Mem. Mr. Heron asking 60 acres ½ Lot No. 33 10 Con Beverly Township. (Niagara Township Papers 0314)


Horton, Edmond

On 12 Mar 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Edmond Horton for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who on 12 Mar 1792 assigned to him one hundred acres in Lots 139 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0586)

On 3 Jul 1795 the Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of Edmond Horton, late of Col. Butlers Corps of Rangers stating that the petitioner was settled on Lot No. 139 in the Township of Newark for which he had a certificate, that the said lot adjoins the Gore of Land between Stamford and Newark on which he has cleared about six acres, praying that the part of said Gore opposite his lot may be granted him and that he had the remaining 200 acres due to him as a Ranger between the Grand River and Long Point. The Council ordered the prayer of this petition be granted. (Niagara Township Papers 0582)
