On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Charles Depue for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 8 in the Township of No. 1. Added note dated 5 Mar 1792: The Board authorize a transfer of the within Lot No. 8 in the Township No. 1 from Charles Depue to Adam Vrooman. (Niagara Township Papers 0080)

Dickson, William

On 1 Mar 1803 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to William Dickson of Niagara Twp., Esq. for 1 acre Lot 151 in the Town of Niagara as per 1st Claim Niagara Commission 1802. (Niagara Township Papers 0609)


Dorris, William

On 29 Apr 1823, Robert Addison, Minister of Niagara gave permission to William Thorn to occupy the north half of the 200 acres of Glebe Land at present held by William Dorress, to pay the same rent that the said Dorress is engaged to pay and if William Dorress has no claim to the said Lot, Mr. Thorn is to tae immediate possession, if the said Dorress has a claim, he must be first settled with. This is to continue while the Glebe is in my charge. Signed Robert Addison. Added note: Received of Mr. William Thorn the sum of six dollars being in full for rent up to the 29th of April 1826. On 1 May 1823 William Dorress of the Township of Niagara sold and gave over to William Thorn of the Township of Stamford all his right, title and possession of Lot 129, being the north half of 200 acres of land in No. 129 and 130 in the Township of Niagara, the same being Glebe land sold for the sum of twenty-five dollars. Durham, James

Field, David

On 6 Feb 1819 the Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of Daniel Field of the Township of Niagara, yeoman praying that the patent in his name for Lot No. 13 in the 7th Concession of the said township may be impounded and that a new patent may issue in his name for Lot No. 13 in the 7th Concession of the Township of Dorchester as the son of Gilbert Field a UE Loyalist. Read also the Surveyor General’s Report thereon dated 2 October 1818 as also the Report of the Secretary of the Province dated 9 October 1818 whereby it appears that the error was made in the Secretary’s Office. On the Report of the Surveyor General on the patent to Daniel Field of Lot No. 13 in the 7th Concession of Niagara is an error, the description for the same being Dorchester. It is ordered that the patent be surrendered by the grantee and a new one issued upon the old description. (Niagara Township Papers 0042)


Field, Gilbert

On 20 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Gilbert “Fields” for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 15 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0116)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Gilbert “Fields” for 106 acres of land in Lot 15 Concession 1 and broken front Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0114)

On 15 Jun 1790 the Land Board read the petition of James “Robinson” for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who on 28 Jun 1790 assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 33 in the Township of No. 1. Added note of J. B. Littlehales dated 18 Oct 1792: The Governor in Council have agreed that this certificate is transferable. Note of the Land Board dated 30 Aug 1794 on the reverse: The Land Board consent to transferring this Lott from James “Robeson” to Gilbert Fields. (Niagara Township Papers 0172, 0173)

On 29 Dec 1792 the Land Board read the petition of James “Robertson” for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith who on 16 Aug 1794 assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 32 in the Township of No. 1. Note of the Land Board on the reverse dated 8 Aug 1972: The Land Board consent to the transfer of the within Lott from James “Robertson” to Gilbert Fields. (Niagara Township Papers 0177)

Undated letter signed by Gilbert Field: “In the year 1783 Gilbert Field took possession of Lot No. 32 in the first Township and after I had taken for my Hundred acres this Lot now in dispute at that time we was alowd but one Hundred acres and being this Lot layd Right in the Rear of my father Lot in the Second Concession Mr Willim Tinling had Surveyd the Township I Desird Allan McDonald whom was the Acting Surveyor and Willm Tinling to set me Down this James Carr came up from Kingston Mr Tinling leaving the Tickets with the Clerk of the garrison James Carr goes to the Clerk and gets the Number of this lot and goes to work I forbid him and Told him that the lot was mine and he must Quit working and at that time we had no where to go to make our redress but Every man seemd to be their own Master what I Relate here I can bring good proof for”


Fields, Nathan

On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Nathan Fields for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who on 28 Jun 1790 assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 18 in the Township of No. 1. Note of the Land Board dated [..] Jan 1791 written on the reverse: A petition having been presented by Nathan Fields requesting the permission of the Board to dispose of the Lots to Isaac Sweazy and he also having requested to transfer the same to Henry Johnston—The Board having considered the propriety of the request do hereby confirm the sale and Henry Johnston`s name shall stand in this Lot for that of Nathan Fields. On 15 Sep 1800 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Henry Johnson of Niagara Twp., yeoman for 100 acres in Lot 18 Concession 1 Niagara Twp. Added note: The above mentioned Land was transferred and confirmed by the late land board to the Grantee; the original nominee was Nathan Fields. (Niagara Township Papers 0128)

Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Henry Johnson (transferred from Nathan Fields) for one hundred acres of land in Lot 18 in front on the Niagara River Newark (Niagara) Twp. with the Land Board certificate transferred by the Board to Henry Johnson and assignment by Mr. Jones (Niagara Township Papers 0130)


Fletcher, Alexander

On 12 Apr 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Alexander Fletcher for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him 100 acres in 163 (sic 185) with the broken front in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0651)
