Damwood, Henry

On 2 Jan 1795 Henry Damwood aged 32, born in Pennsylvania, weaver appeared before John Small and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. On the same date Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 153 and 154 Thorold Twp. Marginal note: Recorded in the Secretary’s Office in the Book of Oaths Folio 29 10th April 1801, William Jarvis, Secy. (Thorold Township Papers 0359)

On 25 Feb 1803 Wm. Jarvis wrote to the Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout, Isaac Swayze Esqr. has paid the Patent Fees on Lots No 153 and 154 in Thorold in the name of Henry Damwood. (Thorold Township Papers 0361)

On 27 Feb 1815 Henry Damewood affirmed before Amos Chapman J. P. that his brother Samuel Samuel Damewood left this Province four and twenty years ago and to the best of his knowledge is residing in Maryland in the United States of America and that he has not left any children in this country. Darling, John

On 27 Jan 1816 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to John Darling of Thorold Twp., yeoman for 100 acres in Lot 133 Thorold Twp. (Thorold Township Papers 0333)


Day, D.

Note of D. W. Smith on land ordered to George Couke: perhaps No. 46 and 47—by this it appears that the Land Granting Department gave the Lot originally entered D. Day, to R. Wilkinson; Day is said to have been a Mulatto and gone to the States five years. (Thorold Township Papers 0144)


Decue, John

On 10 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of John Decue for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 16 Concessions 1 and 2 in the Township of No. 9. Marginal note of D. W. Dennis, Adam

On 9 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Adam Dennis for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found he has received two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 as a Loyalist and he has settled on and improved the same and that he is entitled to a further assignment of one hundred acres for his wife and one child. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 18 Concession 7 in the Township of No. 9. (Thorold Township Papers 0328)

On 9 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Adam Dennis for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. Dennis, John

On 9 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of John Denis for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. Dickson, William

On 10 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of William Dickson for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 17, 18, 19 and 20 in the Gore between the Townships No. 3 and No. 9 mostly in the form of a triangle. Added note of Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith: Lots 10, 41, 42 form a triangle on Major Holland`s Plan. (Thorold Township Papers 0062)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for William Dickson for two hundred acres of land in Lots 40 and 41 Thorold Twp. (Thorold Township Papers 0013)


Foster, Colley

On 9 Mar 1815 the President’s Office permitted Lieut. Colonel Colley Foster to locate Lot Number 224 in the Township of Thorold. (Thorold Township Papers 0506)

On 16 Feb 1815 Lt. Foster wrote saying he was anxious to complete his locations. He noted in regard to his Lot No. 224 in Thorold he had before been offered 5 dollars an acre for it and refused it. He heard that the Thorold lot is worth not less than 8 or 10 dollars an acre not only from its intrinsic worth as land but from its situation. He requested a description of it from the Surveryor’s Field Notes and a plan of its situation (Thorold Township Papers 0509)


Frost, Edmund

On 10 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Edmund Frost for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 14 Concession 5 in the Township of No. 9. (Thorold Township Papers 0205)

On 10 Feb 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Edmund Frost for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 9 (Thorold) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 14 and 15 Concession 4 in the Township of No. 9. (Thorold Township Papers 0208)
