Campbell, Robert

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Robert Campbell for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order remained unassigned. On the reverse Adam Bowman certified on 21 Aug 1795 that he had no claim to the lot of land where Robert Campbell now lived on. Signed by Adam Bowman and witnessed by David Secord. (Stamford Township Papers 0186, 0188)

On 12 Apr 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Robert Campbell for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 47 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0255)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Robert Campbell for one hundred acres of land in Lot 32 Stamford Twp. as per Land Board Certificate of 11 Oct 1794 and Adam Bowman’s Certificate 21 Aug 1795. Note of D. W. Smith: NB Adam Bowman’s name was on this Lot, by the plan. See his surrender attached to the Certificate. (Stamford Township Papers 0184)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Robert Campbell, discharged from the 42nd Regiment for one hundred acres of land in Lot 47 Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0253)

On 17 May 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Robert Campbell for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 135 and 138 in the Township of No. 2. Marginal notes: N. B. Numbers agreeth to the old Survey; Corrected in the Surveyor Genl’s office 23 May 1795--D W Smith Act Sur Gen. Notation of the Land Board dated 17 May 1794: The Patent Possessor Robert Campbell has agreeth to his Prayer. Permission from this Board to transfer Lot No. 118 & 119 in the Township of No. 2 to Samuel Pew. This Done at the Board. I apprehend the Lots intended to be transferred are 185 & 136—D W Smith Act. Carn, Mathias

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Mathias Carn for two hundred acres of land in Lots 12 and 13 Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0121)

On 3 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Mathias Carn for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 12 and 13 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0123)


Chisholm, John

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Conrad Duchamber for one hundred acres of land in Lot 3 Stamford Twp. Note on the document: John Chisholm’s name was on the plan, but his certificate of relinquishment is attached to the assignment. (Stamford Township Papers 0068)

On 11 Jan 1796 John Chisholm certified that he had no claim or right whatever to Lot No. 3 in the 2nd Township, for which Conrade Duchamber has a certificate. Signed by John Chisholm (Stamford Township Papers 0070, 0074)

On 24 May 1802, Thomas Scott, Attorney General stated on this day he inspected the map drawn bu the Surveyor General wherein the Lots No. 75 and some broken lands in the Township of Stamford was located to John Chisholm of the Township of Niagara. (Stamford Township Papers 0353)


Clause, William

Letter from the Lieutenant Governor’s Office dated 24 Jul 1811 to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout permitting the Honorable William Clause to located Lot No. 183 in Stamford containing 100 acres.

On 26 Aug 1811 locations made in the Surveyor General Office by a person being a military claimant: The Honorable William Clause, M. C. for Lot 183 Stamford Twp. 100 acres. Granted 1500 acres under Lt. Gov. Gores O. C. of 14 June 1811—in lieu of the like quantity granted him by an Order in Council of 29 Jan 1797 and surrendered to the Crown 14th June 1811. Clow, John

On 30 Jun 1800 the Government of Upper Canada gave a grant to John Clow of Stamford Twp., yeoman for Lots 14, 27 and 34 Stamford Twp. as per 29th Claim Niagara Commission 1800. (Stamford Township Papers 0181)


Clow, Peter

On 3 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of John Lutes for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 34 in the Township of No. 2 On the reverse the Land Board, Niagara, 21 Feb 1791 acting on a petition from John Lutes and Peter Clow confirmed the transfer made by John Lutes to Peter Clow of Lot 34 in Township No. 2 and said Peter Clow’s name to be entered therein. On 16 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of John Lutes for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 14 and 27 in the Township of No. 2 Note on the reverse: Land Board Niagara Jan 28, 1791, A Petition from John Lutes and Peter Clow being considered the Board confirm the transfer made by John Lutes to Peter Clow of the within two Lots No. 14 & 27 in Township No. 2 & said Peter Clows name to be inserted therein. Cook, Noah

On 11 May 1797 The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Noah Cook of Stamford Twp., yeoman for one hundred acres in Lot 131 Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0573)

On 31 Dec 1798 The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Robert Cook for Lots 114 and 125 Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0679)

On 29 May 1822, the Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of Noah Cook of the Township of Bayham, yeoman setting forth that he came to this Province with his father in the year 1786. In 1797 he obtained an Order in Council for 300 acres, one hundred of which he located in Stamford, the remainder has not been located. In said year 1797 an order in Council passed in favor of his mother for 450 acres. She died in 1812 and the same remains unlocated. He prayed leave to locate 200 acres in his own name and 450 acres in the name of his mother to be claimed by her heir. The Council also read the report of the Surveyor General thereon dated 11 May 1797 for two hundred acres to Noah Cook—do issue to cover his location in Bayham which with one hundred acres in Stamford will complete the three hundred acres heretofore ordered to him. Added note: the location is on Lot No. 121 North on Talbot Road east in Bayham as returned by Col. Talbot. (Stamford Township Papers 0544)

On 10 Feb 1871 D. Deverado of the Crown Lands Department wrote stating that the patent for Lots No. 114 and 125 Stamford in the name of Robert Cook dated on 31 December 1798 is on file in this Department having been impounded before issue in the Office of the Provincial Secretary of Upper Canada probably in consequence of the death of the party to whom the land was intended to be granted before its completion. In 1810 the north half of 125 and the whole of 114 was allowed by the Heir and devisee Commission to Thos. Dickson and Noah Cook in trust and granted by patent in accordance with that allowance in 1813. The south half of Lot No. 125 was allowed by the same Commission to Noah Cook as devisee in the will of his father, the late Robert Cook deceased and was granted to him in accordance with the allowance on March 1813.
