On 15 Oct 1796 Suffreinus Vanalstine appeared before Thomas Welch Esquire, Justice of the Peace and made oath that he never received any certificate, ticket or order for Lot No. 164 in the Township of Newark (Niagara), that he has no claim thereto. Van Every, Gregor

On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Gregor Van Every for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who on 22 Nov 1790 assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 10 and 37 in the Township of No. 1. Added note of the Land Board dated 5 Mar 1792: The bearer Adam Vrooman and Isaac Vrooman having petitioned this Board for leave to purchase the within mentioned Lots No. 10 and 37 from the widow Van Every the Board therefore authorize the sale and direct that the said lots shall stand in the name of the said Adam Vrooman and Isaac Vrooman agreeable to the former resolution. On 31 Oct 1800 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Adam Vrooman and Isaac Vrooman of Niagara Twp., yeomen for 205 acres in Lots 27 and 10 with the Broken the Front of Lot No. 10 Newark (Niagara) Twp. Added note of the Land Board: The above mentioned lands were transferred and confirmed to the grantees by the late Land Board, the original nominee being Gregor Van Every. VanEvery, Samuel

On 11 Mar 1819 the Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of Nicholas Stevens of the Township of Niagara, yeoman, son of Aaron Stevens late of the same place deceased stating that whilst he was a minor the Executors of his grandfather’s will with a view of investing the legacy left to […….] in a way that would prove beneficial purchased from Samuel Van Every now deceased the north part of Lot No. 77 and 108 in the Township of Niagara aforesaid and praying that the patent for the same may be made to him. Read also the report of the Surveyor General thereon dated 9th March 1819. The Council ordered Lot No. 77 should not be described under the Report of the Commissioners until an application to revise their report. Added note: That in July last the eldest son of Samuel Van Every applied to the Commissioners for a title to prevent which, petitioner filed a counter claim. (Niagara Township Papers 0369)

Van Every, William

On 12 Mar 1792 the Land Board read the petition of William Van Every for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 183 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0708)


Vrooman, Adam

On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Charles Depue for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 8 in the Township of No. 1. Added note dated 5 Mar 1792: The Board authorize a transfer of the within Lot No. 8 in the Township No. 1 from Charles Depue to Adam Vrooman. (Niagara Township Papers 0080)

On 19 May 1794 Christian Warner certified he doth not claim any right to the Lots No. 135 and 136 Township No. 1. Signed Christian Warner. (Niagara Township Papers 0556)

Undated memo of Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith stating it was represented to him that the name of Christian Warner being inserted on Lots No. 135 and 136 in the Township of Newark (Niagara), was by mistake and the said Christian Warner having certified to him that he did not claim any right to the said lots. Whitney, Peter

On 31 May 1804 John MacKay of the Town of Niagara, merchant for one hundred and twenty-five pounds sold to Isaac Swayze two hundred acres in Lots 151 and 172 Niagara Twp. Signed John MacKay. Witnessed by Benj. Gilbert and Peter Wheeler. Added note of Samuel Ridout: Peter Whitney has the deed for Lot 152 Township Niagara. A description has issued from the Surveyor Generals Office for Lot No. 152 in the Township of Newark now Niagara for P. Whitney. (Niagara Township Papers 0668)

On 25 May 1811 Peter Whitney of York Twp. York Co. gave a mortgage to Isaac Swayze, Esq. for £100 on 100 acres in lot 152 Niagara Twp. Signed by Peter Whitney and Isaac Swayze. (Niagara Township Papers 0612)


Wilkinson, Richard

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Richard Wilkinson transferred to Lieutenant James Butler and afterwards to Mr. Francis Crooks for two hundred acres of land in Lots 17 and 30 Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0125)


Willson, Shubal

On 10 Jul 1800, Robert Hamilton wrote to C. B. Wyatt Esq. concerning his letter of inquiry about Shubal Willson stating nobody there could give him any information respecting him and that no person of that name has been in the vicinity for the last ten years. Hamilton knew nothing further of the lot (No. 161 Niagara Twp.) further than that it is in a very eligible situation. (Niagara Township Papers 0639)

On 10 Jul 1800, Robert Hamilton wrote to C. B. Locations made in the Surveyor General’s Office by persons paying the whole of the Patent and Surveying Fees under the Regulations acted upon 19 Jul 1806: Charles B. Wyatt Esq. Surveyor General Lot 161 Township of Niagara 100 acres. Granted 300 acres under Mr. President`s Order in Council 18 June 1806. (Niagara Township Papers 0637)

On 7 Nov 1807 the Lieutenant Governor’s Office wrote to Chewett and Ridout Acting Surveyors General stating Ralfe Clench represented to the Lieut. Governor that Mr. Wyatt the Surveyor General of Lands had obtained a deed from Mr. President’s grant for the Lot 161 in the Township of Niagara which lot was improved by John Young, late a Serjeant in Butler’s Rangers, recently deceased and that the heirs of the said Young are still in possession of the lot. The Lieutenant Governor requested a particular and immediate investigation into the right Young had to the land and report with such documents as will fully establish in whom the right the lands in question. On 18 Aug 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Sergeant John Young for three hundred acres of land in Lots 117, 155 and 156 Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0175)
