Garner, John

On 21 May 1804 Ralfe Clench wrote to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout stating Mr. John Garner has requested Clench to write to Ridout for a search for Mr. John Misener for Lots Nos. 1 and 2 in the 1st Concession of Crowland and for Lot No. 14 in the 7th Concession of Willoughby the certificates for the same having been destroyed as they say by fire. Gleeson, Daniel

On 29 Jul 1795 the Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of Daniel Gleeson stating that he served in the 84 Regiment and that he is heir to Peter Groshee deceased. He prayed for the quantity of lands due to him and three hundred acres in his own right. The Council ordered that he do receive four hundred acres, but the claim as to D. Groshee inadmissible. On 8 Oct 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Daniel Gleeson for land in Lot 29 Concession 7 and the front part of Lot 29 Concession 7 and the broken Lot 29 Concession 5 and Lot 30 Concession 6 Crowland Twp. (Crowland Township Papers 0343)

Hannah, Louisa

On 8 Mar 1852 Godfrey White of Humberstone Twp. certified that Louisa Hannah was in possession of and residing on the Gore or south part of Lot fifteen in the Seventh Concession of the Township of Humberstone with a clearing of about three acres and had been in possession there of for some time previous to her assignment of the same to John Havens of Pelham and that the late John Havens was in possession of the said lot from the assignment of Louisa Hannah up to the date of his release and that Edwin Smith is and was in possession ever since. Havens, John

Hazen, Daniel

On 3 May 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Daniel Hazen for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 above Chippeway (Crowland) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 4 and 5 Front Concession in the Township of No. 2 above Chippeway. On 3 May 1792 the Land Board read another petition of Daniel Hazen for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 above Chippeway (Crowland) for his wife and children. The Board found that he had received a grant of two hundred acres as a Loyalist and that he settled on and improved it. He was now found entitled to a further assignment of two hundred acres for his wife and three children. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 6 and 7 Front Concession in the Township of No. 2 above Chippeway. Hendricks, Christian

On 20 Mar 1797 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Christian Hendricks for two hundred acres of land in Lots 1 and 2 Concession 2 Crowland Twp. as per Order of Council 12 Jul 1796 (Crowland Township Papers 0128)

On 18 Aug 1796 Christian Hendricks and Jacob Misener wrote to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith stating by some mistake one lot of land the property of Nicholas Misner has been entered to Hendricks by mistake in Mr. Smith’s office—No. 3 in the 2nd Concession in the Township of Crowland. He certified he had no claim to the said lot of land. Signed Christian Hendricks and Jacob Misener, witnessed by Jacob Buchner. (Crowland Township Papers 131).

On 23 Nov 1801 John Fanning wrote to Acting Surveyor General David William Smith Esquire noting he has been some time in possession of a lot of land in the township of Crowland belonging to a Mr. Darling. Fanning now had claim to lands lying in Crowland except it may be a mistake of his. Lot 10 Concession 6 and Lot 13 Concession 7 in the township of Willoughby are bordering on the town of Crowland. Fanning laid no claim to any other land in or near that township except those two lots—if these deeds are made out for Joshua Bennet for this land Fanning should be glad to know or if they can come out in his name as No. 13 stands to Jacob Boughner. Bughner (sic) has sold to Christian Hendrick and Hendrick to Bennet 10 years ago. Fanning asked information about getting the deed for Bennet. Fanning also noted Smith had the selling of Doctor Holmes land in Willoughby lying on the main road up the river to Fort Erie. Fanning wished to know the lowest terms he would take in cash for the lots. (Crowland Township Papers 0367)

Hodges, Edmund

On 7 Feb 1794 Thomas Campbell made oath that he heard William McDonell say he had disposed of his improvement on Lot 8 in the late survey on Chippewa to Edmund Hoges (sic). Signed Thos. Campbell (Crowland Township Papers 0041)

Holmes, Doctor
