On 3 May 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Joseph Page for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 132 and 133 in the Township of No. 1. (Niagara Township Papers 0565)

Phelps, Elijah

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Elijah Phelps for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 2 in the Township of No. 1. On 30 Sep 1797 David Secord and Elijah Phelps wrote to the Surveyor General’s Office requesting he stop the description of Lots No. 42 and 43 in Newark (Niagara). When they have arranged the division thereof they will inform him. Signed D. Secord and Elijah Phelps. Added note: They afterwards agreed to let the deed come out in Mr. Secords name, he joining Mr. Phelps bond to make over a certain part thereof. (Niagara Township Papers 0665)


Pickard, Benjamin

On 9 May 1810 Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Benjamin Pickard of the Township of Niagara for 99 acres of land in the northern third part of Lot 193 Newark (Niagara) Twp. as per the order of the late Surveyor General dated 13 Dec 1794. On 9 May 1810 Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Benjamin Pickard of the Township of Niagara, devisee of the will of the late William Pickard for 50 acres of land in the north half of the center third part of Lot 193 Newark (Niagara) Twp. surveyed by Mr. Law, located to the late Mr. William Pickard as per the order of the 9th Claim of the Commissioners Report in Jun 1809. The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Robert Pilkington for Lot 164 Newark (Niagara) Twp. as per Order of Council dated 26 Mar 1799. (Niagara Township Papers 0662)

On 21 Feb 1801 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a Fiat to Robert Pilkington of Niagara Twp., Esquire for 100 acres in Lot 164 Niagara Twp. Order of Council dated 26 Mar 1799. (Niagara Township Papers 0664)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Robert Pilkington Esq. for two hundred acres of land in Lot 164 and 2 Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0006)


Powell, William Drummond

On 8 Nov 1794 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for William Drummond Powell by Order of Council bearing date the 7 Jun 1794, whereby Lots 93, 94 and 95 in the Township of Newark (Niagara) were granted to William Drummond Powell, Esquire and by another Order of Council bearing date the 14th day of June 1794 whereby one hundred acres of land in the Gore between the lines of Stamford and Newark was granted to the said William Drummond Powell, Esquire. Smith assigned to Powell Lots 93, 94 and 95 in the Township of Newark containing each one hundred acres also one hundred acres in the Gore between the lines of Stamford and Newark. On 11 Jul 1795 the Executive Council of Upper Canada having taken into consideration the claim of Peter Secord to Lots 93, 94 and 95 in Newark (Niagara) Twp. which had been granted to him under an order of Council dated July 15, 1794 and finding from the report of the Acting Surveyor General that those lands had been previously granted and assigned to Mr. Justice Powell have resolved that this order of Council dated 15 July 1794 by which No. 93, 94 and 95 were granted to Peter Secord be hereby rescinded and do order that four hundred acres of land shall be granted to Peter Secord in lieu thereof and the Surveyor General be directed to assign the land. Quick, Solomon

On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Solomon Quick for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who on 28 Jun 1790 assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 55 and 13 in the Township of No. 1. Added note: Solomon Quick has also 2 on 5, 7 Con. East [Dur…] of Oxford [2 ch] 9 10th Con. Blenhaim. Fanny Quick. (Niagara Township Papers 0254, 256)
