Gardner, Alexander

On 8 [Jan] 1804 John Small, Secretary of The Executive Council of Upper Canada wrote to the Surveyor General that the certificate to Alexander Gardner of the 16 Aug 1794 for Lot No. 29 an ½ acre lot in the Town of Niagara is in this office. (Niagara Town Papers 0417)


Geale, Benjamin

On 4 Jul 1818 the Administrator permitted Benjamin Geale Esq. to locate a lot in the Town of Niagara upon which his name has been inserted. (Niagara Town Papers 0422)

On 1 Oct 1818 Surveyor General Thomas Ridout prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Edward O. Goodson of the Town of Niagara, tailor for one acre of land in Lot No. 181 on the north side of Center Street in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0429)

Hamilton, Robert

On 10 Jun 1795 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of Richard Hall stating the petitioner intends to build in the town of Newark (Niagara) and requested Lot [1]20. (Niagara Town Papers 0469)

Hartman, David

On 22 May 1798 John Chisholm wrote to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith relinquishing any claim on Lot 44 in the Town of Newark in favour of David Hartman he having a house on the same. Signed John Chisholm. (Niagara Town Papers 0194)


Haus, Richard

On 5 May 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Richard Haus for one acre of land in Lot No. 220 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0337)


Hayes, John

On 20 Mar 1800 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to John Hayes Lot No. 178 in the Town of Newark (Niagara). (Niagara Town Papers 0473)

On 20 Mar 1800 John Hays sold to Charles Fields of the Town of West Niagara the house formerly occupied by Capt. Tacheston with ten pounds New York Currency. Hayes will make over Lot 115 and the improvements thereon. John Hays and Judy Hays made their marks witnessed by Charles Fields and Rosana Fields (her mark). Isaac McMichal original nominee proved to have sold to John Hay who sells to Charles Field who sells to John Stewart and allowed to John Stewart. (Niagara Town Papers 0473)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for John Hayes for one acre of land in Lot No. 178 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0477)

Locations made in the Surveyor General’s Office the 18 Oct 1803: John Stuart of Niagara, tailor Lot No. 115 Town of Niagara made conditionally that the title of Isaac McMichael appears at York. By a return from the Council Office dated the 11 May 1795. Isaac McMichael is stated to be entered for this lot, upon the old plan of the town but when an inquiry was made in the latter end of the summer of 1795 of the improvements in the town it was found that John Hay had built upon the lot and occupied the same. No authority for passing the descriptions to either of those persons has been lodged in the Surveyor General’s Office. (Niagara Town Papers 1030)

Heron, Andrew

On 21 Dec 1793 the Land Board read the petition of Peter Michel Fortier for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 37. Note of the Land Board dated 21 Dec 1793 on the reverse: The within named Lot No. 37 is hereby transferred to Andrew Heron. (Niagara Town Papers 0410, 0411)

The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to ­­­­­Andrew Heron (formerly to John Van Voist in 1795 Lot No. 108 in the Town of Niagara as per an Order in Council dated 14 Jul 1798. (Niagara Town Papers 0485)

On 24 Apr 1816 Andrew Heron wrote to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout requesting a deed for Lot 156 in the Town of Niagara. Signed Andrew Heron. (Niagara Town Papers 0481)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Patrick Heron for one acre of land in Lot No. 133 Gage Street in the Town of Newark as per a warrant dated 18 Oct 1796. (Niagara Town Papers 0498)

On 14 Aug 1804 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to Samuel Heron of York for Lot No. 6 in the Town of Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 0501)

On 15 Aug 1804 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to Samuel Heron of the Township of York, yeoman for Lot No. 6 under an Order of Council dated 14 Aug 1804. (Niagara Town Papers 0503)


Hill, Isabella

On 12 Jul 1797 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews and Mrs. Isabella Hill stating that Elizabeth Andrews has an assignment in Lot No. 194 in the Town of Newark and Mrs. Isabella Hill has an Order of Council for Lot No. 239, but the latter having built on the lot of the former they jointly pray that the deed for No. 194 issue to Mrs. Isabella Hill and the deed for Lot No. 239 to Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews. On 30 Jun 1819 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada ordered that the name of John Hill be removed from the plan of locations in the Town of Niagara and that of Isabella Hill be inserted for description and grant of Lot No. 106. (Niagara Town Papers 0508)

On 5 Jan 1820 Surveyor General Thomas Ridout prepared surveyor’s assignment for Isabella Hill of York Twp., widow of Major Hill formerly of His Majesty’s 5th Regiment of Foot, for one acre of land in Lot No. 106 in the Town of Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 0510)


Hill, John

On 26 Jun 1795 The Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of John Hill stating that after His Majesty’s troops evacuated Philadelphia the petitioner went to New York for protection having first experienced the effects of persecution in 1780. He entered into Captain T[empleton] Company of Volunteers. He therefore prays for 1000 acres of land in the 10th Township and a Town Lot No. 277 in the Town of Newark (Niagara). The Council ordered that he shall have 600 acres and the Town Lot granted. (Niagara Town Papers 0513)

On 26 Jun 1795 the Land Board read the petition of John Hill for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 277. (Niagara Town Papers 0517)

On 11 Nov 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for John Hill Junr. for one acre of land in Lot No. 278 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0515)

On 16 Feb 1802 W. and J. Crooks wrote to Hon. D. W. Smith stating that on searching the clerk’s office they found no papers before the Commissioners relating to Lot No. 106 claimed by Capt. Hill (formerly owned by John Hill who lives at the Ten Mile Creek. They wrote to him requesting him to come down at the next meeting of the Commissioners and if the lot alluded to belongs to him, to relinquish it before them which will be sufficient. Added note at the bottom: Since writing the above John Hill has come and says he originally [….] Lot No. 277 which he exchanged with Mr. Ridout for No. 282. He has no claim on Lot 106 nor does he know anything about it. (Niagara Town Papers 0212)

On 24 Jan 1799 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Benjamin Hollawell for one acre of land in Lot No. 372 on Anne Street in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0522)
