Askin, Abraham

On 27 Jan 1797, Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith acting on a patent of 9 Jun 1796 gave to Abraham Arksin or Askin a description for 100 acres in the front half of Lot 2 Concession 2 Humberstone Twp. (Humberstone Township Papers 0223)


Bauchman, Christian

On 28 Feb 1858 Jacob Sherk affirmed before Daniel Near J. P. he was the grantee named in a deed of bargain and sale of Christian Bauchman and wife bearing the date of 21 Mar 1853 and at the date herin was in possession of all the lands described in the deed (Humberstone Township Papers 0052)


Bauchman/Bochman, John

On 10 Feb 1839, Jacob Sherk and John Bochman of Humberstone Twp. filed a letter to the Commission of Crown Lands requesting a grant of 48 acres in the northeast part of Lot 6 Concession 1 Humberstone Twp. as yet ungranted. Jacob Sherk has erected a dwelling house and out houses on the east half. John Bochman has cleared and cultivated the west half. (Township Papers 0043, 0044)

On 14 Mar 1859 a group of neighbours attested that John Bouchman was the owner of and resided upon the northwest part of Lot 6 Concession 1 or Broken Front Concession of Humberstone Twp. containing fifty acres more or less which parcel he purchased from one Abraham Schooley and paid full value. The memorialists were now informed that a portion of the land has never been granted by the Crown and that John Bouchman with the view to save himself from great loss has applied by petition for the purchase of the ungranted part. The memorialists felt the case if John Bouchman to one of great hardship and requested he be allowed to become the purchaser at a nominal price. Signed by Daniel Near J. On 14 Nov 1859, Daniel Near for Sherk and Bauchman wrote to the Commissioner of Crown Lands requesting the deed and bod of Sherk and Bauchman that he left in the Commissioner’s Office last spring on Lot 6, first concession township of Humberstone and whether there was an order passed to grant them the land as Bauchman was anxious to make a payment on his land and get the deed for the granted portion. Beach, Michael

On 9 Jul 1796 the Executive Council of Upper Canada granted to Michael Beach 200 acres of land in Lot 8 Concession 1 Humberstone Twp. (Humberstone Township Papers 0074)


Bearss, Jacob

On 5 Dec 1853 Zenas Fell, Public Land Surveyor submitted a survey plan and description and certified an ungranted part of Lot 9 Concession 1 Humberstone Twp. noting it to occupied by Abraham and Nicholas Michael whose grandfather Nicholas Michael who in 1827 purchased it and began clearing the land. It was now all cleared except five acres. He noted the nearby Lewis Mabee 70 acre grant had no improvements and was covered by a Black Ash swamp. Another fifty acres granted to James House was then in 1840 conveyed to and occupied by Jacob Bearss (Humberstone Township Papers 0079)


Bogert, Martin

On 1 Nov 1800 Benjamin Willson J. P. wrote a letter certifying that the land he located for Peter Wintermute and Martin Bogart sometime ago in the 4th Concession in the Township of Humberstone lay entirely in what is called the Cranberry Swamp back of Sugarloaf. (Humberstone Township Papers 0716)

On 8 Feb 1801 Peter Wintemute and Martin Bogert wrote a letter to Surveyor General D. W. Smith requesting to exchange Lots 24, 25 and 26 in any other part of the province of unlocated lands as their lots lay totally in what is called the Cranberry Marsh or Swamp at the Sugarloaf in the Township of Humberstone. Bowen, Cornelius

Note dated 12 Feb 1811 Cornelius Bowen Lot 23 and north half 22 Concession 4 and north quarter of Lot 24 Concession 3 Humberstone Twp., (description number 8610) supposed to be in 1801 or 1802. This deed impounded in the Council of Upper Canada Office 4 Nov 1801/1803 being dated after the death of C Bowen (Humberstone Township Papers 0692, 0693)

Bowen, Cornelius Jr.

In a letter dated at Port Burwell on 16 Oct 1852 John Burwell wrote to John Rolph on behalf of Cornelius Burwell of Southwold to make enquiry about the north half of Lot 22 and Lot 23 Concession 4 Humberstone Twp. asking if the patent has been issue for those lands as they were many years ago granted to his father the late Cornelius Bowen of the Township of Bertie, and if not what condition the lands are in respect to their title. Burgar, George

George Burgar certified to Surveyor General D. W. Smith that he received of Frederick House half of Lot 4 Concession 3 Humberstone Twp. and five dollars for Lot 18 Concession 2 Windham Twp., (Norfolk Co.) He requested his name taken off that lot and the name of Frederick House entered on it. On 5 Jun 1806 John Warren J. P. acknowledged the request. (Humberstone Township Papers 0367)

Burns, James

On 31 Jul 1802 James Burns of Niagara Twp. late of the Indian Department was given a grant of 100 acres of land in the front half of Lot 12 Concession 4 Humberstone Twp. (Humberstone Township Papers 0498)
