Nason, James

On 20 Jun 1862 a Committee of the Executive Council acting on a report from the Crown Land Department stating that James Nason having surrendered the Letters Patent on 21 May 1860 for Lot Letter D on the Lake Shore Road of the Fort Erie Ordnance Lands in the Township of Bertie and having received a grant of Lot Letter R on the Garrison Road Range of the said Fort Erie Ordnance Lands in lieu thereof, recommended that the surrender be accepted. On 25 Apr 1862 James Nason was given letters patent for five acres in Lot Letter R on the Garrison Road Range of the Fort Erie Ordnance Lands in Bertie Twp. (Bertie Township Papers 0100)

Near, Henry

On 5 Nov 1795 Henry Near aged 55, born in State of New York, farmer appeared before John Small and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of 200 acres of land. On the same date Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith assigned to Near 200 acres in Lots 22 and 23 Concession 3 from Lake Erie Bertie Twp. (Bertie Township Papers 0430)

Near, Peter

On 4 Jul 1836 James Kerby wrote to Peter Robinson, Commissioner of Crown Lands noting Peter Near a farmer residing in the Township of Humberstone states that there is a gore of land lying between Bertie and Humberstone of sixteen rods wide which he said belonged to the Crown. He was desirous of purchasing a part extending from the first concession to Lake Erie. He wished to ascertain the quantity there vacant, the lowest price and terms of payment. Oliver, John

On 18 Mar 1831 Samuel Street of Stamford Twp. and Willson Hawn of Bertie Twp. signed articles of agreement concerning a bond executed by Willson Hawn for the payment of eighty-five pounds with legal interest. Hawn was to pay forty-two pounds ten shillings on or before 1 Mar 1832 and a further sum of forty-two pounds ten shillings on or before 1 Mar 1833. Street would then issue a deed for the land in Bertie Twp. where John Oliver then resided containing sixty-six acres formerly belonging to Henry Warren Esquire [Lot 13 Concession 2 Bertie Twp.] Witnessed by Charles Hill and Thomas Canby. O’Neil, Constantine

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Constintine O’Neil for a grant of 200 acres of land in the Township No. Fort Erie (Bertie) and found him qualified to receive a lot. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to O’Neil 200 acres in Lot 4 Concessions 1 and 2 of Township No. Fort Erie. (Bertie Township Papers 0130).

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Constantine O’Neil for a grant of 200 acres of land in the Township No. Fort Erie (Bertie) and found him qualified to receive a lot and is entitled to a further assignment of 100 acres for his son. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to O’Neil 100 acres in Lot 5 Concession 1 of Township No. Fort Erie. Added note of John Warren, J. P. dated on 22 Mar 1796 stated the late Joseph Speakman who had made a small improvement upon Lot number five in front of the Lot for which this assignment has been granted never did, either by himself or his late widow obtain any Land Board certificate for the Lot, he having removed to Detroit before the Land Board of the District of Nassau were formed or authorized to grant certificates. On 19 Jan 1802 John Warren wrote to the Executive Council after reading in the York Gazette that a patent is ready to be delivered for 120 acres of land to Constantine O’Neil of Bertie which he hoped was a mistake as Warren sometime ago purchase his place which was understood to contain 220 acres, being Lots number 5 in the first and second concessions on Lake Erie (Bertie Township Papers 0164)
