Jago, Henry

On 3 May 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Henry Jago for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 214 in the Township of No. 2. Note of the Land Board dated 6 Jun 1791 on the reverse: Henry Jago having had permission to sell his land when he again entered into His Majesty’s service in the 60th Reg. To John McEwan. That sale was confirmed by the Land Board and the within Lot No. 214 Township No. 2 is directed to stand in the name of said John McEwan. (Stamford Township Papers 0833)

Note of the Land Board dated 6 Jun 1791 on the reverse: Henry Jago having been authorized to dispose of his lands to John McEwan on his entering again into His Majesty’s service in the 60th Regt. that sale is now confirmed by the Land Board and the within lots No. 215 and 218 in the Township No. 2 are directed to stand in the name of said John McEwan. Killman, Jacob

On 3 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Jacob Kilman for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 73 and 79 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0344)

On 18 Oct 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Jacob Kilman for two hundred acres of land in Lots 73 and 79 Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0342)

On 24 Feb 1834 Laurence Lemon wrote to Peter Robinson, Commissioner of Crown Lands stating he lately found that the Rev. William Leeming got a license of occupation for several lots of land in this Township known as reserves but whether they be Crown or Clergy Reserves is not known by us who occupy said Reserve Lots. Lemon understood Mr. Leeming got his licenses of occupation by petitioning the Lieut. Governor in Council which petition if he is informed right states that the said occupants do occupy said lands without any authority, which Lemon stated is not the case for he himself occupied Lot No. 72 under and by authority of Judge Powell Senr. And the late Thomas Dickson Esqr. and has continued to do so for the last twenty-five years and upwards with peaceable possession and paid the taxes. Lemon also noted he petitioned for a lease some ten or fifteen years ago and also petitioned for a lease in 1832 but the first thing he knew or heard about it the Rev. William Leeming had a License of Occupation for four lots in our said Township and for nine amongst the rest. Lemon applied for a lease or deed of Lot 72. If it cannot be leased then he wished to purchase. Signed Laurence Lemon. Kilman, John

On 3 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of John Kilman for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 118 and 121 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0203)

Kilman, Philip

On 3 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of Philip Kilman for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 87 and 88 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0415)

On 18 Oct 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Philip Kilman for one hundred acres of land in Lots 87 Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0418)

On 19 Oct 1796, Jacob Killman heir by will to Philip Killman wrote that Jeremiah Moore petitioned the Lieutenant Governor in Council to be allowed to give up to the Government Lot No. 88 in the Township of Stamford adjoining the Glebe Lands in lieu of Lot No. 61, to be granted to him. Killman stated he had a Land Board Certificate bearing date 3 January 1791 and Mr. Jones’ assignment. Killman gave up all right and title to Lot 88 to Government. In consideration of Lot No. 61 being granted to Jeremiah Moore. Jacob Killman made his mark. Witnessed by Alexander Summers and Phillip Bender. (Stamford Township Papers 0421)


Lampman, Abraham

On 17 May 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Abraham Lampman for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 88 (sic) in the Township of No. 2. Added note of Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith: “From the Information A Lampman gives, I apprehend this to be Lot No. 103 Stamford.” (Stamford Township Papers 0203)

On 16 May 1798 The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Abraham Lampman of Stamford Twp., yeoman for 100 acres in Lot 103 Stamford Twp. as per 11th Claim Niagara Commission Aug 1803. (Stamford Township Papers 0463)

Lampman, Frederick Sr.

On 17 May 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Frederick Lampman Sr. for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 72 and 87 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0338)

Lampman, Frederick Jr.

On 17 May 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Frederick Lampman Junr. for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 54 and 55 in the Township of No. 2 (Stamford Township Papers 0276)

The Acting Surveyor General prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Frederick Lampman of Stamford Twp., yeoman, son of Frederick Lampman late of the same place, deceased, a U. E. Loyalist, for land in Lot 82 Stamford Twp. Bottom is ripped off. (Stamford Township Papers 0306)

On 12 Sep 1803 the Government of Upper Canada gave a grant to Frederick Lampman of Stamford Twp., farmer for Lots 65, 68, 85 and one hundred Stamford Twp. as per 72nd Claim Niagara Commission for 1803. (Stamford Township Papers 0308)

On 1 Jun 1811 Isaac Swayze wrote to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout concerning Lots 183 and 81 Stamford Twp. and found there was no improvement on 183. There appears to be a small corner of John Thomas`field adjoining it, perhaps one acre improved and the same quantity on Frederick Lantman`s (sic) field. I have not seen Mr. Lantman, but Mr. Thomas says he has no claim to it. Swayze requested the lots be located as soon as possible to prevent others from doing so. (Stamford Township Papers 0380)

On 11 Mar 1819 The Executive Council read the petition of Frederick Lampman of Stamford Twp. yeoman stating that he purchased from his brother Matthias Lampman Lot No. 82 in Stamford and praying that the Patent may issue to him. The Council ordered that Lot No. 82 be described for the original nominee Matthias Lampman or to be claimed by Frederick Lampman under the commission of deed. (Stamford Township Papers 0387)

On 2 Apr 1823 The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Frederick Lampman of Stamford Twp., yeoman for one hundred acres in Lot 82 Stamford Twp. as the son of Frederick Lampman, late of the same place, deceased, a U. E. Loyalist. Privilege being allowed for the same as S. U. E. by the Inspector General (Stamford Township Papers 0385)

Leeming, William (Rev.)

On 14 Nov 1833, The Executive Council ordered the Reverend William Leeming of the Township of Stamford shall receive a License of Occupation of Lots 72, 88, 89 and 106 in the Township of Stamford, Clergy Glebe Reserves. (Stamford Township Papers 335)

On 22 Jun 1798 The Executive Council gave a grant to Lawrence Lemon a lot in Stamford Twp. (Stamford Township Papers 0326)

On 8 Mar 1799 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Lawrence Lemon for one hundred acres of land in Lot 71 Stamford Twp. Added note: Survey paid. This lot was formerly occupied by one Jonas Barnes—but now granted to Lemon who it is said has considerable improvement on the lot and is anxious for the deed. (Stamford Township Papers 0328)

Lundy, William

On 20 Jul 1803 Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Johanna Silverthorne of the Township of Stamford for 50 acres of land in the east half of Lot 141 Stamford Twp. under the 34 Claim Niagara Com. 1803. William Lundy original nominee. (Stamford Township Papers 0601)

On 31 Aug 1804, Acting Surveyors General Chewett & Ridout wrote: On the 5th day of August 1794 the Lots No. 140 and 141 in the Township of Stamford, containing 200 acres, were assigned in the Surveyor General’s Office to William Lundy upon a Land Board certificate of the 16 January 1791 (Assnt. No. 217) & have been described. (Stamford Township Papers 0602)

On 31 Aug 1804, William Allen, Esquire, JP certified that William Lundy of the Township of Stamford, yeoman appeared before him, who being a Quaker affirmed that before the Public Offices removed from Niagara to York, he lodged with John Small Esquire the Clerk of the Council, a Land Board Certificate for two hundred acres of land in the Township of Stamford—that having made strict search in the Land Granting Officers for the said certificate, the same cannot be found. [Signed] William Lundy. Added certificate of William Lundy of Stamford, who being a Quaker, solemnly affirmed that he made diligent search in the Land Granting Offices for a Land Board certificate dated the 16 January 1791 for 200 acres of land and assigned to him by David Wm. Smith Esqr., Surveyor General, for Lots No. 140 and 141 in the Township of Stamford and that he cannot fine the same. [Signed] Willm Lundy. (Stamford Township Papers 0603, 0605)

On 23 Oct 1805 Surveyor General C. B. Wyatt wrote to Attorney General Scott stating the name of William Lundy is entered on the Quebec Plan of Stamford for Lots No. 140 and 141 containing two hundred acres under the authority of Land Board Certificate dated the 16 Jan 1791 and assigned in this office the 5 August 1794. The east half of the above Lot No. 141 containing 50 acres was allowed to Johanna Silverthorne, 34 Claim Niagara Com. 1803 and has been described for her. Therefore William Lundy has [….] obtain a fiat for the Lot No. 120 and west half of 141 in Stamford 150 acres. (Stamford Township Papers 0606)


Lutes, John

On 3 Jan 1791 the Land Board read the petition of John Lutes for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 (Stamford) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 34 in the Township of No. 2 On the reverse the Land Board, Niagara, 21 Feb 1791 acting on a petition from John Lutes and Peter Clow confirmed the transfer made by John Lutes to Peter Clow of Lot 34 in Township No. 2 and said Peter Clow’s name to be entered therein. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 14 and 27 in the Township of No. 2 Note on the reverse: Land Board Niagara Jan 28, 1791, A Petition from John Lutes and Peter Clow being considered the Board confirm the transfer made by John Lutes to Peter Clow of the within two Lots No. 14 & 27 in Township No. 2 & said Peter Clows name to be inserted therein.
