Van Haynen, John

On 3 May 1794 the Land Board read the petition of John Van Haynen for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 281. (Niagara Town Papers 1098)


Van Voist, John

On 26 Jun 1795 The Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of John Van Voist praying for Lot No. 108 in the Town of Newark (Niagara). The Council ordered that the same be granted. Referred to Acting Surveyor D. W. Smith who prepared an assignment to John Voist for Lot No. 108 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 1103)

Wallace, William

On 31 Jul 1804 The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to William Wallace of the Town of Niagara, yeoman for Lot No. 29 on the north side of Prideaux Street in the Town of Niagara under the 65th Claim Niagara Commission 1803. (Niagara Town Papers 1120)


Wardell, Michael

On 12 Jul ____ Michael Wardell, born in the Jersies, aged 36, carpenter appeared before Robert Kerr and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. (Niagara Town Papers 1122B)

The Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Michael Wardell, U. E. for a Town Lot in the Town of Newark (Niagara) under an Order in Council dated 21 Aug 1797. (Niagara Town Papers 1124)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith gave an undated assignment to Michael Wardell, U. E. for one acre in Lot No. 284 in the Town of Newark (Niagara). (Niagara Town Papers 1126)


Waters, Humphrey

On 30 Aug 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Humphrey Waters for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 325. (Niagara Town Papers 1129)


Weishuhn, Henry

On 6 Mar 1821 the Executive Council of Upper Canada read the petition of Ebenezer Whiting of Woodhouse, watchmaker setting forth that in the year 1794 he purchased from Henry Weishuhn Lot No. 5 in the Town of Niagara, that he built a dwelling house thereon in which for a number of years he carried on his business, that in the year 1799 his private affairs requiring his absence from this Province, he leased the said premises at £64 New York Currency per annum, that he left the transfer and other papers connected therewith in the hands of James Secord of Queenston by whom they were lost during the late War, that the petitioner returned to this Province in the year 1819, when he found that the said house was burnt by the enemy, and that the said lot had been granted to John Andrew Stephenson. Whiting prayed for relief. The Council read also the report of the Surveyor general thereon dated 5th March 1831. The Executive Council ordered on the petition of Ebenezer Whiting that the lot claimed by him under H. Weishuhn is actually under grant to Mr. Stephenson under special order in Council of 22nd October 1818, but petitioner was not the original nominee. (Niagara Town Papers 1132)

Whittet, James

On 6 Mar 1819 Surveyor General Thomas Ridout under the authority of an Order in Council of 4th March 1819 granting to James Whittet, a native of Perthshire, Scotland now of Niagara Shoemaker a Town Lot of half an acre in the Town of Niagara. He assigned the west half of Lot 87 in the Town of Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 1135)


Whitton, James

On 7 Sep 1793 the Land Board read the petition of James Whitton for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 236. (Niagara Town Papers 1140)


Wilkinson, Richard

On 15 Feb 1799 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith wrote to Administrator Peter Russell concerning the joint petition of Auldjo and Maitland, James Clark Senr., Elizabeth Crooks, William Crooks and James Crooks. By a return from the Council Office received 11 May 1795 Francis Crooks is returned for the lot of ground in the Town of Newark (Niagara) mentioned in the letter of attorney and called No. 1. By the same return James Crooks appears to be returned for Lot No. 63 in the said Town. The farms called No. 17 and 30 in the Township of Newark were originally located to Richard Wilkinson transferred from him to Colonel Butler and from him to Mr Crooks. Mr. Francis Crooks has also 1200 acres of land in the Township of Windham. (Niagara Town Papers 0064)


Willcocks, Charles

On 24 Nov 1795 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of William Willcocks and his son Charles Willcocks stating they were merchants and therefore prayed for grant of two Town Lots in the Town of Newark (Niagara) for that purpose. (Niagara Town Papers 1155)

On 24 Nov 1795 the Land Board read the petition of Charles Willcocks for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 78. (Niagara Town Papers 1152)

On 25 Nov 1795 Peter Russell, Executive Councillor wrote to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith that William Willcocks Esq. and Mr. Charles Willcocks having petitioned His Excellency the Lieut. Governor for two Town Lots in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and requested that Lots Nos. 77 and 78 may be assigned to them, he recommended that the said Lots Nos. 77 and 78 in the Town of Newark may be assigned. On 24 Dec 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Charles Willcocks for one acre of land in Lot 78 in the Town of Newark (Niagara Town Papers 0021)

On 29 Sep 1820 the Auditor General certified that no entry of a deed for a Town Lot in the Town of Niagara to Charles Willcocks appears in the books of his office. (Niagara Town Papers 1143)

On 2 Oct 1820 the D. Cameron, Secretary certified that no patent appears to have been completed in his office in the name of Charles Willcocks for a Town Lot in Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 1144)

On 1 Nov 1820 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to ­­­­­Charles Willcocks of the Town of York, gentleman for one acre in Lot No. 78 in the Town of Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 1147)

On 28 Nov 1820 Surveyor General Thomas Ridout prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Charles Willcocks of York Twp., gentleman for one acre of land in Lot No. 78 on the southerly side of Queen Street in the Town of Newark under an Order in Council dated 1 Nov 1820. (Niagara Town Papers 1149)

Winterbottom, Samuel

On 4 Nov 1803 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to ­­­­­Samuel Winterbottom an Order in Council for a Town Lot in Newark and 200 acres. (Niagara Town Papers 1165)

On 6 Mar 1799 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Samuel Winterbottom of the Township of Niagara for one acre of land in Lot No. 328 on John Street in the Town of Niagara. (Niagara Town Papers 1167)


Winterbottom, William Bowers

On 7 Jan 1851 Henry Smith, Crown Lands Agent for the Counties of Lincoln, Welland and Haldimand gave a receipt to Henry Sewell for two pounds one shilling currency, being the first instalment on Clergy Reserve Lot number 267 in the Town of Niagara containing one acre sold to him for the sum of twenty pounds ten shillings currency upon condition of paying one tenth of the purchase money down and the remainder in nine annual instalments with interest on each instalment as it becomes due, the first of which instalments to fall due and be payable on the first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two. On 5 Jun 1851 Thomas Eedson of Niagara, carpenter sold for twenty-two pounds ten shillings to William Bowers Winterbottom of the same place, Esquire Lot No. 268 in the Town of Niagara. Signed Thomas Eedson. Witnessed by Isaac Henry Johnson, W. Claus. (Niagara Town Papers 1172)

On 6 Jun 1851 Henry Sewell of Niagara, carpenter sold for twenty pounds ten shillings to William Bowers Winterbottom of the same place, Esquire Lot No. 267 in the Town of Niagara. Signed Henry Sewell. Witnessed by Isaac Henry Johnson, W. Claus. (Niagara Town Papers 1169)


Wray, John

On 18 Jun 1795 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of John Wray stating his desire of building in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and praying for Lot No. 219. The Council ordered it be granted and referred to the Surveyor General. (Niagara Town Papers 1177)

On 5 May 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for John Wray for one acre of land in Lot No. 219 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0337)


Young, George

On 11 May 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for George Young for one acre of land in Lot No. 107 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 1181)

On 9 May 1795 Peter Russell, Executive Councillor wrote to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith that George Young, house carpenter having petitioned His Excellency the Lieut. Governor for two Town Lots in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and that Lot No. 107 was assigned to him by the Board. Having represented to Russell that the said Young has timber lying ready to be removed (as soon as he can obtain leave) on the said lot for the improvement of the same agreeable to his contract with the said Land Board, Russell recommended that the said Lot No. 107 in the Town of Newark may be assigned.
