On 31 May 1804 John MacKay of the Town of Niagara, merchant for one hundred and twenty-five pounds sold to Isaac Swayze two hundred acres in Lots 151 and 172 Niagara Twp. Signed John MacKay. Witnessed by Benj. Gilbert and Peter Wheeler. Added note of Samuel Ridout: Peter Whitney has the deed for Lot 152 Township Niagara. A description has issued from the Surveyor Generals Office for Lot No. 152 in the Township of Newark now Niagara for P. Whitney. (Niagara Township Papers 0668)


Maracle, Frederick

On 21 Jun 1794 the Land Board read the petition of Frederick Maracle for a grant of one hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. In a letter of 4 Sep 1818 from the Lieutenant Governor’s Office to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout a description of the Clergy Glebe lot no. 126 in the Township of Niagara was requested for a license of occupation to Solomon Markle of the said Township. (Niagara Township Papers 0508)


McDonell, Allan

On 12 Apr 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Allan McDonell for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 12 and 34 in the Township of No. 1. Added note of the Land Board dated 12 Apr 1792: The Board authorize the transfer of the within Lots from Allan McDonnell to James Ramsay and direct them to remain the property of James Ramsay (Niagara Township Papers 0101)

On 15 Jan 1799 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for John McFarland for 308 acres of land in Lots 22, 23 and 25 and broken front Newark (Niagara) Twp. with Order in Council 22 Jun 1795 in favor of John McFarland—the above being lands entered for John McDonell. On 9 Aug 1794 the Land Board granted Lots 63 and 64 Newark (Niagara) Twp. to John McFarland as assignee of David Beaty. The Land Board certified that McFarland had a regular assinment from Beaty for his lands. McFarland expects the deed in his name. (Niagara Township Papers 0306)
