Martin, Thomas

The Executive Council read the petition of Thomas Martin stating he served in the Navy and praying for lands for himself and family having received only one hundred acres. Ordered he shall have a further grant of one hundred acres of land. The order is undated and mentioned Lots 5, 6 and 7 Concession 2 Crowland. (Crowland Township Papers 0141)

Mathews, James

On 21 May 1794 the Land Board read the petition of James Mathews for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 above Chippeway (Crowland) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 4 and 5 Concession 7 in the Township of No. 2 above Chippeway. McKenzie, Alexander

On 10 Nov 1818 the Lieutenant Governor’s Office wrote to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout desiring he locate Alexander McKenzie Esquire on the south part of Lot No. 29, 7 Concession, Township of Crowland. (Crowland Township Papers 0601)

McMicking, Peter

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for David Davison (Ranger) transferred by the Land Board to Peter McMicking for three hundred acres of land in Lots 18, 19 and 20 Concession 4 Crowland Twp. with order of the Land Board 2 Aug 1794 and transfer same day to Peter McMicking. On 28 Nov 1803 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to Peter McMicking of Stamford Twp., gentleman for 300 acres in Lots 18, 19 and 20 Concession 4 Crowland Twp. Land Board Certificate transferred from David Davison. (Crowland Township Papers 0266)

Millard, Daniel

On 14 May 1805 Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Daniel Millard of Charlotteville Twp., Norfolk Co. for two hundred acres of land in Lots 17 and 18 Concession 6 Crowland Twp. as per an Order in Council dated 18 Aug 1795. Millard, Jason

On 5 May 1795 Jason Millard aged 28, born in York State, farmer appeared before Dan Millard J. P. and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. On 6 May 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 16 Concessions 5 and 6 Crowland Twp. (Crowland Township Papers 0328)

Millard, Thomas

On 14 Aug 1804 H. Allcock, Chairman wrote this deed having erroneously issued to Thomas Miller, Esquire instead of Thomas Millard (who was not Esquire). Recommended that the deed with all the authorities under which it issued be impounded in the Council Office and new authorities issue for a deed to Thomas Millard. (Crowland Township Papers 0321)

On 19 Dec 1804 John Beikie, Deputy Clerk of the Executive Council sent a letter annexing a copy of the recommendation of the Executive Council on a deed to Thomas Miller Esquire for Lot 14 in the 5th and 6th Concessions of Crowland containing two hundred acres dated 1th August 1804. Misener, Andrew

On 16 Jan 1840 Andrew Misener wrote to Robert B. Sullivan, Commissioner of Crown Lands enclosing his receipt from the Land Agent for the Niagara District for the sum of £22.10 being the full amount of the purchase money for the south part of Lot 6 in the 7th Concession of the Township of Crowland having thirty acres more or less, and to request he will cause the Patent to issue for the claim. Enclosed receipt from John Lyons, Agent for the sale of public Lands in the Niagara District, for Andrew Misener of the Township of Crowland, yeoman for £22.10 currency dated at Niagara District Office Niagara 16 Jan 1840 (Crowland Township Papers 0431, 0432)

On 13 Sep 1794 the Land Board read the petition of John Misenor (sic) for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 2 above Chippeway (Crowland) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith who assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 19, 20 and 21 on the water in the Township of No. 2 above Chippewa also the Lot No. 19 in the [named] Concession containing 100 acres. On 21 May 1804 Ralfe Clench wrote to Surveyor General Thomas Ridout stating Mr. John Garner has requested Clench to write to Ridout for a search for Mr. John Misener for Lots Nos. 1 and 2 in the 1st Concession of Crowland and for Lot No. 14 in the 7th Concession of Willoughby the certificates for the same having been destroyed as they say by fire. Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Leonard Misenard (sic) for 170 hundred acres of land in Lot 10 Concession 1 with broken front Crowland Twp. (Crowland Township Papers 0162)

Morgan, David

On 8 Oct 1801 Willson Doan appeared before Thomas Cummings J. P. at Chippawa and affirmed (he being of the people called Quakers) that his father Titus Doan obtained from Government an order for six hundred acres of land within this Province. That he the said Titus Doan contracted for the sale of two hundred acres part of the said six hundred to David Morgan and at the request of said David gave written leave to Walter Anderson to locate the said two hundred acres, and also two hundred acres, part of the said six hundred to Thomas Doan Senior, and the remaining two hundred acres he the said Titus Doan exchanged with John Pattey for two hundred acres of land in Humberstone where on the said Titus now resides. Morris, Amos

On 24 Apr 1795 “Amous” Morris aged 39, born in [Muncath] County, farmer appeared before Dan Millard J. P. and took the prescribed oaths and was recommended for a grant of two hundred acres of land. On 28 Apr 1795 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith assigned to him two hundred acres in Lot 7 Concessions 5 and 6 Crowland Twp. (Crowland Township Papers 0302, 303)

Nevill, Moses

On 10 Oct 1801 Thomas Welch wrote to Acting Surveyor General David William Smith respecting the location of lands Titus Doan obtained from the Government. As he was so sick as not to be able to go before the Magistrate, his son with whom he resides, and who is perfectly acquainted with the concern of his father, went with Welch to Chippawa and took the enclosed affirmation. Welch noted a poor relation of his Moses Nevill who has a large family, having purchased of the Honorable Robert Hamilton the lots number 27 and 28 in the 5th concession of the Township of Crowland, and being, as he says informed by some of his neighbours, that those lots did not belong to Mr. H. has requested of Welch to inquire to whom the lots were granted. Welch requested Smith to inform him in that particular for “that poor mans information.” Welch further noted he exchanged 400 acres of land in Humberstone for Lots 18 and 19 in the first Concession of Rainham (with one Stoner and one Bartoon).
