In a letter of 4 Oct 1808 from the Lieutenant Governor’s Office to Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout a description of the Clergy Glebe lot no. 127 in the Township of Niagara was requested for a license of occupation to John Cain of the said Township. (Niagara Township Papers 0511)


Cassada/Cassady, Daniel

On 12 Mar 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Daniel Cassada for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred and thirty-three and a third acres in part of Lots 75, 76, 104 and 110 and 13 in the Township of No. 1. Added note of the Land Board dated 27 Jul 1794: The Land Board on the petition of Daniel Cassady consent to the transfer of the within lands consisting of 133-1/3 acres to Samuel Cassady. On 29 Mar 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Peter Clow for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who on 7 Jun 1790 assigned to him two hundred acres in Lots 59 and 60 in the Township of No. 1. Note of the Land Board dated 6 Jun 1791 on the reverse: A petition from Peter Clow having been presented to the Land Board for leave to sell his lots to Archibald Cunningham the Board authorize the sale and direct the name of Archibald Cunningham to stand in place of Peter Clows in said Lots No. 59 and 60 in Township No. 1. On 8 May 1798 Archibald Cunningham wrote to Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith asking whether the dded for Lots 59 and 60 Township of Newark will issue in the name of Peter Clow or himself. Cochell, John

On 28 Jun 1790 the Land Board read the petition of Roger Bradt for a grant of two hundred acres of land in Township No. 1 (Niagara) and found him qualified to receive two hundred acres of land. The order was referred to Acting Surveyor General Augustus Jones who assigned to him one hundred acres in Lot 71 in the Township of No. 1. Note of the Land Board dated 18 Apr 1792 on the reverse: The bearer Roger Bradt having petitioned the Board for leave to dispose of the within named Lot No. 71 to John Cochell, the Board authorize the sale and direct that the Lot No. 71 be transferred to the said John Cochell. Further note of the Land Board dated 14 Dec 1793: The bearer John Cochell having petitioned this Board for leave to dispose of the within named Lot No. 71 to Thomas Butler, the Board authorize the sale and direct that the aforesaid Lot be transferred to Thomas Butler. On 15 Oct 1804 the James Green, Secretary of the Lieutenant Governor’s Office wrote to Acting Surveyors General Chewett and Ridout requesting Mr. George Law to survey Lot No. 192 in the Township of Niagara in the occupation of George Cockell, the expense of which Cockell is to defray. Cockle, John

On 7 Jun 1794 the Executive Council read the petition of John Cockle stating he has built upon and occupied a lot of 100 acres of land eight years, on the west side of the Four Mile Creek adjoining the land of Mr. Servos. Ordered that the Surveyor General be referred to and that he be directed to assign the said land, provided the petitioner be found entitled to the same. (Niagara Township Papers 0719)

On 4 Dec 1794 and 23 Sep 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for John Cockle (late of Butlers Rangers) for 100 acres of land on the west side of Four Mile Creek Newark (Niagara) Twp. (Niagara Township Papers 0718, 0721)

On 16 Dec 1805 the Executive Council of Upper Canada gave a grant to John Cockle of Niagara Twp., yeoman for Lot 189 Newark (Niagara) Twp. on the west side of the Four Mile Creek as per Order in Council dated 7 Jun 1794. Privileged for 300 acres. (Niagara Township Papers 0723)


Collard, Elijah

On 23 Aug 1796 Elijah Collard certified that he did nor or ever had any right, title or claim to Lot 178 in the Township of Newark (Niagara) in the possession of Mr. Francis Goring, neither did he have any ticket or certificate for the said Lot No. 178.
