Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for George Adams for one-half acre of land in Lot 47 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0047)


Adams, Thomas

On 18 Jun 1796 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of Thomas Adams praying for Lot 48 in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and ordered that it be granted. (Niagara Town Papers 0044)

Addison, Robert (Reverend)

On 21 Dec 1793 the Land Board read the petition of Thomas Butler for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 8. Added note of the Land Board dated 21 Dec 1793: The Board authorizes Thomas Butler to transfer the within lot No. 8 in the Town of Newark to the Reverend Robert Addison. On 28 Aug 1797 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to Rev. Robert Addison of Newark (Niagara), for Lots 72 and 73 in Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0053)

Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Reverend Robert Addison for one-half acre of land in Lot 8 in the Town of Newark. Land Board Certificate to Thomas Butler transferred to Robert Addison. (Niagara Town Papers 0050)


Adnams, Joseph

On 26 Aug 1792 the Land Board read the petition of Joseph Adnams for a grant of one acre of land in the Town of Newark (Niagara) and found him qualified and assigned to him Town Lot 238. Added note of Robert Pilkington: The within named grantee has long been, and is still employed in the service of Government. (Niagara Town Papers 1201)

On 29 Apr 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Joseph Adnams for one acre of land in Lot 238 in the Town of Newark. (Niagara Town Papers 0026)


Allen, Alexander

On 29 Apr 1796 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared a surveyor’s assignment for Alexander Allen for one acre of land in Lot 275 in the Town of Newark (Niagara Town Papers 0021)


Almas, John

On 31 Dec 1853 James Butler of the Town of Niagara appeared before John [Jameson], J. P. and made oath that he was acquainted in the year 1807 with Mary Ann Forsyth daughter and only child of the late George Forsyth merchant of the said Town who died on the 15th Sep 1806. The said Mary Ann Forsyth as heir at law of the said George Forsyth came into possession of Lot 199 in the said Town of Niagara which she has held from the period when the deponent first became acquainted with her (about 36 years since) until assigned over to John L. Almas merchant of said Town by her surviving trustee and attorney James Bell Forsyth, Esq. dated 12 Sep 1852. (Niagara Town Papers 0401)

On 29 Nov 1854 John L. Almas wrote to W. H. Lee, Chief Clerk of The Executive Council of Upper Canada, Esquire that Lot 199 in the Town of Niagara has been assigned to him (but for which a patent has not been issued) having been assigned to him for a valuable consideration by Miss. Mary Ann Forsyth in whose possession it has been for more than 40 years. He requested all papers connected with the said lot to the Heir and Devisee Court. He intends claiming it at its next sitting in January 1855. (Niagara Town Papers 0403)


Andrews, Elizabeth

On 12 Jul 1797 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada read the petition of Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews and Mrs. Isabella Hill stating that Elizabeth Andrews has an assignment in Lot No. 194 in the Town of Newark and Mrs. Isabella Hill has an Order of Council for Lot No. 239, but the latter having built on the lot of the former they jointly pray that the deed for No. 194 issue to Mrs. Isabella Hill and the deed for Lot No. 239 to Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews. Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith prepared an undated surveyor’s assignment for Mrs. Elizabeth Andrews for one acre of land in Lot 239 William Street in the Town of Niagara as per an Order in Council dated 12 Jul 1797. (Niagara Town Papers 0057)

On 16 Mar 1802 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to Elizabeth Andrews of The Town of Niagara, widow of the late Commodore Andrews for one acre in Lot 239 on William Street in the Town of Niagara as per an Order in Council dated 12 Jul 1797. Auldjo, Alexander

On 15 Feb 1799 Acting Surveyor General D. W. Smith wrote to Administrator Peter Russell concerning the joint petition of Auldjo and Maitland, James Clark Senr., Elizabeth Crooks, William Crooks and James Crooks. By a return from the Council Office received 11 May 1795 Francis Crooks is returned for the lot of ground in the Town of Newark (Niagara) mentioned in the letter of attorney and called No. 1. By the same return James Crooks appears to be returned for Lot No. 63 in the said Town. The farms called No. 17 and 30 in the Township of Newark were originally located to Richard Wilkinson transferred from him to Colonel Butler and from him to Mr Crooks. Mr. Francis Crooks has also 1200 acres of land in the Township of Windham. (Niagara Town Papers 0064)

On 18 Dec 1800 The Executive Council of Upper Canada of Upper Canada gave a grant to Alexander Auldjo of the Town of Montreal, Esquire for one-half acre in Lot No. 1 on King Street in the Town of Niagara as per an Order in Council dated 16 Feb 1799.
