Maple Bars
What you need:
For the donut:
- 1 tube refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
- 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying
For the icing:
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 Tbsp. maple extract
- 1/8 tsp. salt
Directions:
- Make icing by melting butter, brown sugar, and milk in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, turn heat to low and let cook and stir for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 15 minutes.
- In a skillet, heat 1-inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Stretch biscuits into logs gently.
- Once oil has heated, add logs, a few at a time, and cook until golden brown on each side.
- Once golden brown, place onto a wire rack with a paper towel underneath.
- Back to the icing, add powdered sugar, salt, and maple extract and whisk until smooth.
- Dip donut into icing or pour icing onto each donut and then let cool for a few more minutes.
