Ballina Juvenile GAA Notes:

Ballina U12 footballers had a busy time last week. They took part in the North Tipperary “Premier End Games” on Monday last. The boys had a great victory over Roscrea in the semi final with Gary O’Brien, Cian O’Donnell, Phelim Tuite and Abe Ryan netting the goals in a 4:03 to 0:01 victory. The final against Nenagh was played immediately afterwards and was a thriller. Nenagh held the upper hand early on playing with a strong breeze. The Ballina boys fought back and edged in front, only for a last gasp equalising point from Nenagh to draw the match at 1:03 each. With the new U12 format in place, it was decided that the teams would share the honours with no replay or extra time. The top two teams from each division were invited to play in county “End Games” on Saturday. The boys lost out to Boherlahan but were able to experience the thrill of playing at Semple Stadium. Well done to the players and mentors involved.

Ned Power Honoured

On Sunday last a statue of the late great hurling legend Ned Power was unveiled in Tallow, Co. Waterford. Ned’s son Eamonn has been PRO for the Ballina Juvenile club for the past three years. Ned was goalkeeper on the Waterford team in the late 50s and early 60s winning an All Ireland medal in 1959. When he finished playing he continued to give his time to hurling by getting involved in coaching both locally and nationally. Following the unveiling of the statue last Sunday the local Gaa field in Tallow, which is named after Ned also, was blessed and a challenge game took place between Waterford and Kilkenny. Everyone involved in Ballina GAA would like to pass on their congratulations and best wishes to Eamonn and the Power family.
