Friends of Ballina GAA

Have you been up to the hurling field recently ? Despite all that an Irish winter can throw at it, the surface is actually quite good just now. That is thanks in no small way to John Gleeson and the ground staff who do an excellent job. The pitch will come under a lot of pressure when 400 enthusiastic children descend up on it over the next month or so, not to mention the Intermediates, Junior A’s, U21’s & Minors. Quite simply the field will not be able to withstand the wear and tear it gets each year. The pitch also hosts the school sports day & the community games athletics meeting.

As an example, the club had approximately 40 U10 boys registered last year and half of the pitch was enough for training. In 3 years’ time, many of these boys will be U14’s and will need a full pitch to themselves for training. The good news is that there are new people making contributions every week – which is very encouraging. Right now the focus is on getting the planning application through the planning process with North Tipperary County Council. The club is appealing to everyone whose children get to use the current playing field to play their part in supporting the drive to purchase a much-needed second field and sustain Gaelic games in our parish. Any contribution is welcome and it can be a one-off or recurring donation. As an example, €5 a week is a big help in securing a much-needed additional facility in the parish of Ballina & Boher. We are very close to starting construction and we are confident that with your help we will achieve our goals. Join the team – build the dream !

New Ballina GAA Website & Facebook

It’s new, it’s better than the last one and it’s now live. The new website is far easier to navigate and has many new features such as slide shows, videos, club calendar etc. It also has some collaborative features allowing you to post comments and discuss topics. Have a look at http://ballina.tipperary.gaa.ie/ Ballina GAA is now on Facebook. 226 people are already followers - follow us for the easiest way to stay in touch with club events, pictures and discussions.

U10 GAA Season kicks off

U10 GAA: Well done to the boys yesterday who kicked off the season in style with a great performance in the all county football blitz in Dr. Morris Park. Captain Robbie Breen showed all his football skills leading the team and Josh Egan must get a mention too for his swashbuckling display at the back. The boys accounted for Boherlahan Dualla & Cahir before tasting defeat against Moycarkey Borris (photo attached).
