Juvenile Notes:
Juvenile Presentation Night
Our juvenile club presentation night takes place this coming Sat 7th November at Boru on the Hill. It gets underway at 7pm and all parents and supporters of the club are invited to attend. This night gives the club an opportunity to acknowledge the effort put in all year by all our juvenile players.
U13
The U13 boys tasted success on the road last Saturday by winning the Shield final in the Billy O'Meara tournament, which was staged in sun-drenched Cloughjordan. The semi final v Kilruane McDonaghs was a very tight affair and although Ballina conceded two early goals, they recovered manfully and a single score separated the sides for much of the game. In the last few minutes, the home side tacked on two late goals in what was a well-deserved victory for the more focused home side. The other semi final was won by Newport / Ballinahinch who got the better of Éire Óg Nenagh after extra time. The break and the opportunity to refocus paid dividends for the lads as they set about their task enthusiastically and a clearly tiring and depleted Éire Óg side never got to grips with their opponents allowing Ballina to win by 0-11 to 0-03. Captain David Grace accepted the trophy on behalf of our team. Well done to all the lads.
U14
The U14s took on Nenagh Eire Óg on Bank holiday Monday in our U14 tournament. They played some great hurling and put in some real battling performances all over the field. They were very unlucky to lose by 3 pts in the end but can be happy with the commitment shown by every one of them.
They played Silvermines in Dolla under lights last Monday evening in the final group game. Results not available when going to press.
The finals of this tournament are to be confirmed either this coming weekend or the following weekend between the clubs involved.
This tournament was organised by Ballina to keep these lads hurling season going a bit longer and in particular the older U14s of the group whose season had ended very early this year.
Handball
Congratulations to James Prentice and Conor Bourke, members of our U16 hurling and football teams on their great wins in U16 and U15 Doubles All Ireland Handball finals in Roscommon on Sunday last.
