Senior Notes:

Senior Hurling Championship

Ballina began their County Senior Hurling Championship campaign on Sunday evening last, 12th April in Holycross. This year we have stepped up to Roinn I and Clonoulty/Rossmore were our opponents. Clonoulty started with a goal & put us on the back foot straight away. Clonoulty tagged on a few points & we found ourselves 7 points behind before we opened our scoring. We held our own for the next 10-15 mins, but a Clonoulty goal coming up to half-time left us 2-11 to 0-4 behind at half-time.

A good start was required to the second half, but again it was Clonoulty who got the important scores & extended their lead further. We finished well & were on top for the last 10 mins, but in truth the game was well beyond our reach at that stage. Final Score: Clonoulty/Rossmore 4-21, Ballina 1-09.

The effort was there, but on the evening little things didn't go our way Clonoulty had the experience and the skills to keep doing the right things. Our next game is on April 26th against Nenagh Éire Óg & again this will be a big test in a very strong group.

Ballina: Martin McKeogh; Donal Kent, Aidan Hanley, Gerry O'Brien; Brian O'Connor, Thomas Collins, Kevin Cosgrove; David Hickey, Sean McKeogh; Steven O'Brien, Patrick Cosgrove, Ronan Bourke; Ben King, Eoin Kent, Brian McKeogh. Subs Used: Diarmuid Healy & Terry O'Halloran

Junior "B" Hurling League

Ballina played their second game of the League against Borris-Ileigh on bank Holiday Monday 6th April in Borrisoleigh. Ballina played well in this game, but unfortunately goals win games & Borris got 4 to win on the scoreline: Borris-Ileigh 4-08 to Ballina 1-15. This was a much-improved performance from the opening game.

Ballina will be out again this weekend against Lorrha in Lorrha. Check fixtures for details.

Minor Football Championship

Ballina begin this Minor Football campaign on Thursday 16th April in Ballina against Kildangan. We are defending champions in this competition, but will need a big performance from everyone to make progress. Best wishes to selectors Fran Hogan, Dermot Gleeson & Michael Cyran & the panel for this game.

Inter-County

Huge Congratulations to Steven O'Brien and the Tipperary Under-21 Footballers on their great win over Cork on Wednesday night last in Thurles. The team showed great heart & skill on the evening and were worthy winners of their second Munster Title. Best wishes to the Panel and team Saturday next in Tullamore against Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final.

Best wishes also to the Tipp Senior Hurlers & Michael Breen in the league semi-final on Sunday against Waterford. Congratulations to the Minor Hurlers & best wishes to the Minor Footballers also in their respective Munster Championship campaigns.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Siobhan Kennedy (Gortlassobrien) on her recent nuptials to Anthony O'Rourke. We wish them both a long & happy life together. Siobhan is a former club Treasurer.
