Darkness into Light

Congratulations to all involved with the Pieta House Darkness into light walk which took place on Saturday last at 4:15am. There was a great atmosphere on in and around the clubhouse which acted as a start & finish point for the Ballina/Killaloe walk.

A special thanks to the female club members who took care of providing refreshments to the large crowd after the walk.

See our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/ballina.gaatipperary for a summary of the morning.

Juvenile Notes:

U6s and U8s

The U6 and U8 groups have good numbers at training. A reminder that it not too late for your child to join their friends and have some great fun while learning the skills of hurling and football and being active.

U10s

Our U 10 boys travelled to Dr Morris Park in Templederry last Saturday morning for a blitz. Ballina were successful in their games and had a great morning.

U12s

The U12 Group 3s North Final V Lorrha had to be postponed on Friday due to the heavy rain making most pitches unplayable. It was played on Tuesday evening 12th . No result at time of going to press.

U14

The U14s played their last group game of football on Saturday morning, 9th May v’s Kildangan in Puckane with Kildangan getting the win.

They have qualified for a North quarter final V Moneygall/Clonakenny which is down to be provisionally played on Wednesday 13th in Moneygall at 18:30 (dependent on availability of pitches due to the weather).

Darkness into light

Well done to the large number of juvenile club members who took part in the walk last Saturday morning!

The club shop is open during training for all club gear, helmets and hurleys etc. Tea and coffee also available in the shop.

Senior Notes:

Senior Hurling

Our Senior Hurlers campaign in Roinn I of the County SHC came to end of Sunday last (10th May 2015) in Nenagh. Ballina played Templederry in far from ideal conditions. Both sides had to cope with heavy rain through-out. This games was close through-out, with the sides swapping points regularly. Templederry hit a purple patch around the 20-minute mark, but Ballina responded well to close the gap to 3-points at the break - Ballina 1-6, Templederry 1-9.

Ballina played with elements in the second half, but missed some opportunities. Templederry made the decisive move on the scoreboard shortly after this with 2-quick goals. Ballina found their feet again, but couldn't get the necessary scores & in the end, the scoreline read: Templederry 3-15, Ballina 1-12

Ballina: Martin McKeogh; Donal Kent, Jerry O'Brien, Rody Kennedy; Brian O'Connnor, Thomas Collins, Kevin Cosgrove; Steven O'Brien, Michael Breen; Diarmuid Healy, Eoin Kent, Patrick Cosgrove; Ronan Bourke, David Hickey, Brian McKeogh. Subs used: Brian Connolly & Terry O'Halloran.

The previous Monday, 4th May, Ballina took on Nenagh Éire Óg in Newport in Round 2. In this game - Éire Óg proved too strong for us on the evening and led from post to pillar. Nenagh led by 1-13 to 0-6 at half time and finished up 1-30 to 0-7 winners.

Ballina: Adrian Power; Full back line as above; Half-back line/Centre field: Swap Kevin Cosgrove & Michael Breen; Diarmuid Healy, Patrick Cosgrove, Terry O'Halloran; Full forward line as above. Subs used: Eoin Kent & Brian Connolly

Our senior hurlers now turn their attention to the north championship campaign. It starts on Sunday 17th May at 16:00 in Nenagh against Silvermines. All support on the day would be appreciated.

Junior “B” Hurling:

Our Junior B Hurlers will play their final League game against Kildangan shortly - check fixtures for details
