Juvenile Notes:

U10s - John Joe Nevin Tournament

The Annual U10 John Joe Nevin Tournament took place in Ballina on Sunday and while the weather was not kind to us the hurling on display more than made up for it. This year the Nevin Family presented a new trophy for The JJ Nevin Tournament and also the Dessie Nevin Trophy for the winners of the B final.

Ballina Red team beat Murroe Boher and Newport to qualify for the A Final. Ballina Blue team also beat Murroe Boher and Newport to join Ballina Reds in the final. Both Clooney Quinn teams qualified for the B Final.

Both Ballina teams served up a great game of hurling in the final. The Red team’s goals proved decisive and despite a strong fight back in the second half, the Red team captain Ger Sage accepted the John Joe Nevin trophy from Mrs Patsy Nevin. She presented the Clooney Quinn captain with The Dessie Nevin Trophy as B final winners.

Player of the tournament was presented to Zach Egan for his outstanding display over the 3 games.

Special mention to the scorer of the first goal in a competitive game in our new pitch, Simon Grace.

Many thanks to all who helped out to make this such a great day but in particular to

the parents who brought food and to the hard working BBQ'ers.

And thanks to the Nevin Family for their continued support of this U10 tournament.

Senior Notes:

Junior B Hurlers:

Our Junior Hurlers played their championship semi-final on Saturday last 12th September in Nenagh against Portroe. This was a tough, hard but sporting game. Both sides gave it everything and Portroe definitely had the better of the first half, leading 1-7 to 0-4 at half time.

Ballina upped their game in the second-half but missed some scoring opportunities. A TJ O'Connell goal with about 20 minutes left put the game on a knife edge. Deep in injury time, Portroe were still 3-points to the good, when the ball was worked into the Portroe net. However this goal was disallowed & Portroe won by 1-11 to 1-8. Hard luck to the lads on a great effort and to the management of Aaron Devane, Sean Collins & Michael Hurley. Congratulations to Portroe & best wishes to them in Final!!

Ballina: Thomas McGrath; Eoin Ryan, Michéal Kennedy, Rory Clarke; Jamie Collins, Sean Collins, Eamonn O'Sullivan; Martin Kennedy, Niall Sheehy; Daire King, Shane Grace, Eamonn Healy; Peter O'Leary, Eoin Kennedy, Ger Coonan.
