Ballina GAA Juvenile Club AGM

Ballina GAA club held its juvenile Annual General Meeting last Friday night January 27^th in the clubhouse. On a cold evening, the well attended meeting marked the end of Mike Keely’s tenure as chairman. A familiar face around the club and a hard-working club man, Mike’s presence and ability to bring people together and get things done will be missed. Former chairman Peter King thanked Mike for his leadership of the club over the last 3 years. The meeting discussed a range of topics including gradings for the coming year, fund-raising initiatives planned, online member registrations and the challenge of paying for the new playing field. Secretary Eileen Breen gave a very comprehensive report on how 2011 went for each age group. Treasurer Brian Neill shared the result of his efforts to balance the books – not an easy thing to achieve in these troubled times. Like all clubs, change is the one constant and the AGM saw a new Chairman elected, a new Treasurer elected and several new committee members including Sean Collins (Vice-Chairman), Fidelma Frahill (Assistant Secretary), Kieran Scullane (Assisitant Treasurer) and Tanya Ni Ceirin (School Liaison for Boher).

It’s heartening to see so many new faces on the committee and on bhealf of the club I would like to welcome them all and wish them every success. To those who are leaving the committee after giving significant service - including Eddie Ryan, Noel Kelly & Brian Neill - all that remains is to say a big thank you from the club for your time and effort.

The dark, long days of Winter are rapidly shortening as Spring thoughts begin to come into focus. Although the aurora borealis has been entertaining, there is nothing like a few matches to get the blood flowing so thankfully it won’t be long now until the playing season begins. That’s the administration set-up finalised – let the games begin!
