Ballina GAA Golf Classic

Ballina GAA held their Golf Classic on Friday and Saturday last in East Clare Golf Club. The sun shone brilliantly on Friday when 19 teams went out and had a great evening's play with some good scores being recorded. On Saturday 20 teams took part enjoying sunshine for most of the day but with rain closing in on the last few teams. However, another great day's golf and fun was reported...some excellent scores and some that are perhaps best left unrecorded! The Club is very grateful to East Clare Golf Club, Mike Whelan and his staff for their hospitality and their sponsorship.

At a very enjoyable Social evening on Saturday night in Brian Boru on the Hill, the following received their prizes: Maurice Costelloe's team were the overall winners followed by Jolly Tots, led by Brian Commins, then Molly's team led by Dermot O'Connell and in 4th place Jack Hogan's team. The Ladies prize went to Helen Purtill and her team. The prize for the longest drive over the two days went to former Tipp hurling great Declan Ryan. The arrival on the opening tee on Saturday afternoon of a most fashionably dressed gentleman led to the award of best dressed player being unanimously awarded to Mike Grace who would have looked quite at home in Augusta!

The Golf Classic is a very important fundraiser for the Club and the organising Committee would like to express a very sincere vote of thanks to all who entered teams and to those who gave very generous sponsorship for the event. Temas and Sponsors will be announced in next week’s notes.

The U8s had a great mornings hurling against Newport in Ballina on Saturday last.

U12s

Our U12 Group B team played Borrisoleigh in the North Tipp semi final on Sat evening. They put in a great performance but came up short to a good Borrisoleigh side. Hard luck boys.

The U12 panel travelled to Semple Stadium on Friday to take part in the activity day there. They played teams from Clerihan, Lisgoold , St Patrick's , Emly and Middleton. They also got a tour of the dressing rooms and all enjoyed their day out.

U14/16s

The U14s took part in The Tim Liffey tournament hosted by Moneygall on Saturday morning. They played Moneygall and Coolderry of Offaly and enjoyed their morning’s hurling. Thanks to Moneygall /Clonakenny clubs for their hospitality.

U16s next game is away to Newport on August 10th. No results when going to print.

Senior Notes:

Junior B Hurlers:

Our Junior "B" team will have their final group game at home on Friday 14th Aug v Lorrha @ 7:15pm. The team is through to the Quarter Finals, but a win would send them straight through to semi-finals. Hopefully a big support will turn up on the evening.
