When does this course run: This compulsory Year 9 Science course runs in Semester 1.
Building Science Skills: People who study Science need a range of skills. Many of these skills are unique to Science. These skills include: working in a Science laboratory, accessing Science-based material, and exploring who are scientists and how they work.

Science skills are needed to be able to work safely in Science. By doing this course, other Science courses will be easier, as the necessary skills will already have been learnt and time will not be needed to learn the necessary skills.
Some of the skills being learnt are: understanding how Science works, investigating in Science, communication methods used in Science, how Science approaches science-based issues, and how to work safely and successfully in a Science laboratory. Other skills that link to other subjects are reading and writing, mathematical calculations and graph work and practical experimentation skills.
Ākonga will be learning through a range of different activities. For example, science practicals, online and though written text.
This course prepares students for any of the other Science courses available to Year 9 and 10 students, and later on Year 11 students.
