Kei hopu tōu ringa ki te aka tāepa, engari kia mau ki te aka matua.
The main vine is strong and has secure foundations, whereas the loose vine can be buffeted by the wind, so anyone climbing it will not reach the top. Knowledge is a treasure gained through hard work and problem-solving.
Mathematics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in quantities, space, and time. Statistics is the exploration and use of patterns and relationships in data. These two disciplines, although related, require different ways of thinking and problem-solving. Both equip students with effective means for investigating, interpreting, explaining, and making sense of the world in which they live.

This course is designed to prepare ākonga for the study of mathematics, statistics, sciences or social sciences at a tertiary level.
Ākonga will develop their knowledge of
Statistics
Probability
Mathematical modelling
Ākonga will develop the mathematical skills needed for tertiary study in areas such as Biological Science, Social Sciences and Commerce. The course will enhance confidence in the application of mathematical concepts in real-life problems.
Ākonga will choose up to 4 standards to complete from the list below:
Standard AS91574 - Apply linear programming methods in solving problems (internal)
Standard AS91580 - Investigate time series data (internal)
Standard AS91581 - Investigate bivariate measurement data (internal)
Standard AS91582 - Use statistical methods to make a formal inference (internal)
Standard AS91586 - Apply probability distributions in solving problems (external)
Endorsement is available if ākonga achieve a mix of internal and external standards.
Casio graphics calculator, Chromebook or laptop, and it is recommended to purchase an ESA Level 3 Statistics Learning Workbook ($25)
