Year 10 In the Outdoors gives an insight towards Outdoor Education at Otaki College and what skills ākonga can build on if they choose to take Outdoor Education at NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3

Outdoor Education provides unique experiences in our local environments such as the Otaki River and the mighty Tararua ranges.
Ākonga will learn a range of skills related to Rock Climbing, Tramping, Navigation. Skills learned will be tied into themes of 'Wai' and 'Migration', exploring skills around raft building, river safety and movement of people about the Tararua Range related to Kupe, Ngati Toa and Ngati Kahungunu.
Contexts of learning will take place in and outside of the classroom with the main focus being on the local landscape and resources that Otaki has to offer.
If ākonga choose 'In the Outdoors' it gives them a better understanding of the skills that are introduced in NCEA Level 1 Outdoor Education.
