Level 1 Physical Education is a great progression for ākonga who have shown a genuine interest in Physical Education in Year 9 & 10. This programme focuses on enhancing well-being and performance of the individual while providing leadership opportunities.
Ākonga build fundamental knowledge in the areas of; biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, hauora and interpersonal skills. Ākonga will be given the opportunity to apply the knowledge to contexts that they find relevant and interesting.

Level 1 Physical Education is a great choice of study for anyone who may be interested in the idea of pursuing a career in Health Science or the Sport & Fitness Industry.
Ākonga will learn a range of skills.
How to analyse their own performance in a sporting activity to develop improvement.
Participate in a range of physical activities and unpack how participation in physical activities impacts the wellbeing of self and others.
How to unpack and apply tactical strategies in a chosen sporting activity and evaluate personal performance.
In this course, you will do a combination of theory and practical lessons. Relating the knowledge from the classroom into a practical context.
In this course, ākonga will complete 2 internal and 1 external achievement standards. Standards are worth 5 credits each.
Standard 92016 - Apply movement strategies in an applied setting (internal)
Standard 92017 - Demonstrate understanding of the application of strategies in movement (internal)
Standard 92018 - Demonstrate understanding of the influence of a personal movement experience on hauora (external)
Endorsement is available if students achieve a mix of internal and external standards.
All course material will be provided throughout the year. Ākonga are responsible for bringing appropriate activewear and suitable footwear for practical lessons.
