We all have stories to share and Drama allows ākonga to explore, understand, create and express their ways of seeing the world and to see the world through other’s eyes. Drama helps us understand others, examine the world and build empathy and social skills.
The objective of this course is to build skills and confidence in creating, performing and understanding Drama. We focus on how to develop strong foundational acting techniques, confidently perform in a group, devise your own drama and perform in front of a live audience. You will develop your collaboration and group-work skills.
This course involves a lot of group-based projects as well as individual work and reflection. Students will participate in warm up games, memorise lines, make acting choices, discuss theatre, rehearse and participate in performances both in-class and a class production for an audience.
Ākonga will be assessed on internal and external standards.
Ākonga will be assessed on at least three of:
Standard 91512 - Interpret scripted text to integrate drama techniques in a performance (internal)
Standard 91513 - Devise and perform a drama to realise a concept (internal)
Standard 91517 - Perform a substantial acting role in a significant production (internal)
Standard 91518 - Demonstrate understanding of live drama performance (external)
