When does this course run: This course runs in either Semester 1 or 2 (ākonga can choose one or two semesters).
Year 9 & 10 Gamer Tech is a course that will introduce ākonga to the world of programming and computer science with the goal of understanding how computer systems work and being able to design and build computer games

Gamer Tech will start you on your journey to understanding how the digital world works. Not only will you begin to understand the complex machines we all use in our everyday lives but you will also learn how to make them do what you want through the medium of game creation.

Deep learning competencies such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and cultural awareness
Ākonga will learn programming skills in the Scratch platform to introduce them to key concepts by creating a number of games. They will also learn how to create animated sequences in a challenge to promote our school themes of Wai/Migration then use these skills to create cut scenes to help their game tell a story. In the 2nd term of this course ākonga will work through the design process to create their own game.
Students can carry on into further studies of Digital Technology, Digial Media, Gamification and into NCEA L1 Digital Technologies
