Welcome to Ta Ara a Tawhaki - Year 12
For 2026, Te Ara a Tawhaki in the senior school does not look very different from our 2025 programme. Most subjects continue to have whole-year courses leading to NCEA assessments and qualifications. The exceptions are the semester-course programmes in Literacy and Numeracy.
All senior courses will cover NZ Curriculum achievement objectives and NCEA requirements, while also developing the essential transferable skills of the 7C Deep Learning competencies.
Choosing your course
When choosing your course, check whether it caters for:
Your interests → I enjoy the learning in this course
Your strengths → I can achieve in this course
Your aspirations → I want to continue learning in this area
Your future career pathways → My courses allow enough variety for future career pathways
Year 12 ākonga choose 6 courses. Although no course is compulsory, it is highly recommended that all Year 12 ākonga take an English-rich course (such as English or Humanities) or Te Reo Māori. Taking these important courses keeps future career pathways open. If you have questions about career pathways, please read the information in the Career Pathways tab above, or please talk to Mrs Steph Putt.
Click on the tab below to display courses. Take time to read about each course and once you have decided upon what you wish to take, use the 2026 Course Selection Form to complete your selection.
Notes:
If you are working at a higher level (not NCEA L2), please look at the courses in Year 13.
If you are unable to choose a course because of a clash, there is space to record this on the Course Selection Form.
Only one Secondary-Tertiary course can be picked per ākonga (through UCOL, Whitireia, or the Primary ITO). The courses are found in the External Courses tab. Ākonga will need to see Mrs Steph Putt this term for tertiary enrollment forms.
Also, only one online learning course is advisable (through Te Kura and Video Conferencing). Courses are viewable when clicking on the link in the External Courses tab. See Mrs Gillian Gordon this term for enrollment details.
Manukura GPS for boys runs across one line of the timetable. Manukura GPS also requires ākonga to attend lessons from 7:30 am each morning. See Mr Sam Ward this term for enrollment information.
