This Level 2 Mathematics course will cover a variety of Mathematical concepts and topics including Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry and Statistics. The course is designed so that the majority of credits are attained internally with the opportunity for some external credits at the end of the year. This is the ideal course for students who may need mathematics credits and skills for their future but prefer internal tests over exams and wish to avoid Algebra and Calculus

MAT2 Internal offers 14 internal credits and 4 external credits over the course of the year. Achievement in the course leads to L3 Statistics which is a UE approved subject.
Concepts covered in this course include, non right angled trigonometry, using geometric methods to identify lengths midpoints and gradients, probability based simulations, arithmetic and geometric based sequencing, understanding and manipulating statistics and using network concepts to find optimal solutions.
Ākonga will use a combination of calculators, computers, workbooks, textbooks and worksheets to learn about a variety of mathematical concepts covered in this Level 2 Maths course. Ākonga usually have the opportunity of sitting 2 internal assessments per term allowing ākonga to obtain a significant amount of Level 2 credits before heading into exams
Ākonga are mostly assessed Internally. But there is an external exam for those aiming for course endorsement.
They will do:
Standard 91259 - Apply trigonometric relationships in solving problems Internally assessed (internal)
Standard 91256 - Apply coordinate geometry methods in solving problems Internally assessed (internal)
Standard 91268 - Investigate situations involving elements of chance using a simulation Internally assessed (internal)
Standard 91258 - Apply sequences and series in solving problems Internally assessed (internal)
Standard 91265 - Conduct an experiment to investigate a situation using statistical methods Internally assessed (internal)
Standard 91260 - Apply network methods in solving problems Internally assessed (internal)
Standard 91267 - Apply probability methods in solving problems Externally assessed (external)
In order to progress to Level 3 Statistics or Level 3 Mathematics students will need to gain a minimum of 12 credits.
Ākonga would benefit from having:
Calculators, chromebooks, rulers, pens and a workbook.
