Yr 10 Horticulture allows ākonga to appreciate and understand how plants function and to produce a garden using skills developed throughout the course. Ākonga will gain a good general background in horticultural science and an understanding of the enjoyment of growing and caring for plants.

Horticulture allows ākonga to be confident in the creation of a garden at their home, whether it be in the ground, raised beds or pots and develop skills that can be used for the rest of their life.
Ākonga will gain a good general background in horticultural science and an understanding of the enjoyment of growing and caring for plants. Ākonga learn the basic skills required for beekeeping: Ākonga will build a hive construct and wire frames as well as attaching the foundation, and get it ready to populate with bees and depending on the season inspect a hive and extract honey.
Students will both do in class lessons which are reinforced with practical activities.
This course leads to NCEA L1 Horticulture
