When does this course run: This Year 10 Physical Education course runs in either Semester 1 or 2 (ākonga can only choose one).
Year 10 Fundamentals in Sport is similar to a traditional PE course. It builds on the fundamental movement skills from Year 9. This continues in the development of a range of sports, eg; striking, catching, throwing, running. These skills will be taught and practiced in a game sense setting, providing students with a range of experiences participating in physical activity.

In this course, ākonga will continue to build on traditional sporting skills. This course is suitable for ākonga who have a passion for sport or a desire to improve their overall motor skill performance.
Ākonga will learn some of their theory behind motor skill learning and basic biomechanical skill analysis. These are key principles helping ākonga who are enthusiastic about movement and moving on to NCEA L1 Physical Education.
Activities such as; Football, Touch, Ki o Rahi, Netball, Basketball - context will very much be determined by the interests and passion of the ākonga within each class.
This course provides a knowledge base for ākonga who are interested in studying senior Physical Education, or studying in the field of Health Science, coaching or fitness.
All course learning material will be provided in class. Students are required to come prepared with full PE gear.
