Year 13 Painting will further develop ākonga creative and critical thinking skills in the Visual Arts. Ākonga have an opportunity to establish their own style and practice based on the study of other artists and artworks. It is recommended that ākonga enter this course with a fluency in the practical skills used in previous years.

Visual Arts learning is relevant for ākonga who are studying a wide range of other subjects where attention to detail, creating and interpreting images, and critical thinking are all important skills.
How to develop and extend your ideas through exploration and further develop and extend skills and techniques in drawing, painting, and artist research
Ākonga will use a visual diary/workbook process to record learning before developing and presenting works for internal standards and the external examination. Ākonga will work on personal projects, chosen in consultation with the art teacher.
Your work will be assessed through two internal achievement standards and two external achievement standards.
Standard 91446 - Use drawing to demonstrate understanding of conventions appropriate to painting (internal)
Standard 91451 - Systematically clarify ideas using drawing informed by established painting practice (internal)
Standard 91456 - Produce a systematic body of work that integrates conventions and regenerates ideas within painting practice (external)
A3 art pad and artcase.
A range of drawing pencils, erasers
Acrylic paint and brushes will be required to have at home for completing homework.
