Sports Studies Level 2 builds on knowledge from SPS1 and experiences from PE. This course has a focus on personal physical fitness and wellbeing as well as building on knowledge of functional anatomy.

Sports Studies is a solid building block for anyone interested in a career path in the health & fitness industry. This course covers foundation Unit Standards in this area.
Ākonga will learn terminology of muscles and bones in the human body, functional anatomy. Principles and Methods of training and how to apply these for successful training. There will be an opportunity for a small taste of experience in a leadership role within the class.
Ākonga will develop and lead a skills session for peers in a sport of their own choosing, developing leadership skills. Developing personal physical fitness will be a big focus, learning to train effectively and safely using a range of methods of training, including resistance training in our weights room.
This course is internally assessed, it has a combination of practical and written assessments. These assessments are predominantly unit standards with one achievement standard (practical assessment).
Standard 22264 - Instruct and monitor resistance training (internal)
Standard 20673 - Demonstrate knowledge of injuries, injury prevention and risks and hazards associated with sport or recreation (internal)
Standard 91330 - Perform a physical activity in an applied setting (internal)
Standard 21794 - Demonstrate, instruct and monitor static stretching (internal)
Standard 21649 - Demonstrate knowledge of basic anatomy to the performance of a complex skill sport skill (internal)
All reading/written material will be provided in class. It is ākonga responsibility to have appropriate activewear and suitable footwear for practical lessons.
