In this course ākonga will learn about Manaakitanga and what it means to care for others both on and off the marae. Manaakitanga for us as Māori is the pinnacle of who we are as tangata whenua of Aotearoa.

He Toa Takatini is for students that work or may want to help at the marae and will give them a small insight to how much work is done behind the scenes of many marae gatherings.
Ākonga will learn the roles and responsibilities of those who work on the marae, with manaaki tangata the primary objective. They will also complete a hangi for the end of year assessment.
Ākonga will start a google slide which will contain the following:
-Full recipes that students will prepare and cook
-Karakia for kai
-Pictures for assessments
-Mid year and final assessments
Ākonga will also learn how to cook a variety of dishes, with great and affordable produce in many different ways.
The majority of this course is practically assessed. As long as ākonga keep up to date with their mahi and google slide they should complete the class with no problems.

Standard 30540 - Plan, prepare, and produce a hāngi as part of a team, in accordance with tikanga and kawa (internal)
Standard 30541 - Prepare, cook, and present a range of dishes for manuhiri (internal)
