In Childcare Level 3 ākonga will be introduced to the ages and stages of babies, toddlers and young children and their requirements to develop.

If you are interested in a career working with babies and young children then this could be the course to give you an understanding of the needs of this age group.
Ākonga will learn about the NZ Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum and the requirements of ECE services to provide a safe learning environment for 0 to 5 years.
This will be emphasized by visits to local ECE providers.
All of the work is internally assessed (no exams). Ākonga will research and visit local health providers.
Ākonga will have the opportunity to gain approximately 18 credits. These are Unit Standards at Level 3.
Standard 10013 - Explain the relevance of the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki, as a framework for ECE programme development (internal)
Standard 10019 - Describe & contribute to safe practices & a safe environment for children in an ECE service (internal)
Standard 29865 - Describe and reflect on practices to protect & promote the health & holistic wellbeing of children in an ECE service (internal)
Standard 26708 - Develop respectful, reciprocal and responsive relationships with children in an ECE service (internal)
Standard 29867 - Demonstrate knowledge of diverse whanau/families & use a range of reflective communication strategies in an ECE service (internal)
