Working on art projects is an opportunity for students to hone their self-management skills, which prepares them for more independent work at Levels 2 and 3. Level 1 Art is relevant for ākonga who are studying a wide range of other subjects where attention to detail, creating and interpreting images, and critical thinking are all important skills.
In Level 1 Art, Ākonga will develop your research, observational drawing, painting and printmaking skills.
Ākonga will engage in a practice-based visual inquiry that explores an Aotearoa New Zealand Māori context and another cultural context. Then, a variety of art-making mediums will be used to further develop the knowledge acquired and artworks produced throughout this investigation.
