This course will help students to gain valuable skills for employment, vocational education and life beyond school, by studying a number of relevant core generic unit standards and being exposed to several different learning opportunities.

To help develop work-ready skills. Gateway students are able to have a work placement in an area of vocational interest. This will help them to build links to industry, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
Ākonga will learn their strengths, values, preferences and interests, and how these align with different jobs and careers. Many life skills which will be useful once you leave school.
Ākonga will learn skills such as first aid, health and safety, budgeting, and work-ready skills such as preparing a CV, understanding employment rights & responsibilities, being able to search and select information, access different community groups, fill in a form, prepare for and be interviewed, and describe obligations as an employee.
Ākonga may have the opportunity to achieve credits related to their specific industry experience. This course is assessed internally, mainly using open-book assessments.
