Sports Studies is a Level 3 Unit Standard course. It primarily focuses on methods of training and fitness programme design. This course is a good mixture of practical and theory, great for those practical learners.

Sports Studies is a great option for anyone who has an interest in the health & fitness industry, or a desire to grow their knowledge for their own health and wellbeing. This course provides ākonga with a mixture of classroom and practical learning opportunities.
Ākonga will learn how to apply knowledge of functional anatomy and biophysical principles to develop personal fitness and lifelong wellbeing.
Throughout the year, ākonga will:
Participate in a personal fitness programme
Train for and participate in the Tough Guy & Gal event
Learn to write a training programme and monitor resistance training
Explore & apply leadership skills
This course is internally assessed, it has a combination of practical and written assessments. These assessments are predominantly unit standards with one achievement standard (practical assessment).
Standard 20673 - Demonstrate knowledge of injury prevention and risk and injury management in sport or recreation (internal)
Standard 30933 - Demonstrate knowledge of exercise prescription (internal)
Standard 39035 - Develop and implement an exercise plan for personal physical fitness (internal)
Standard 90501 - Demonstrate quality performance of a physical activity in an applied setting (internal)
All reading/written material will be provided in class. It is ākonga responsibility to have appropriate activewear and suitable footwear for practical lessons.
