When does this course run: This course runs in either Semester 1 or 2 (ākonga can choose one or two semesters).
Textiles and Fashion: Textiles protect, provide comfort, have social meaning, respond to cultural influences and perform a range of necessary functions in the textiles industry and other industries.

Textiles and Fashion develops ākonga creativity and project management skills that promote self-esteem and satisfaction. Ākonga develop an understanding that textiles in industry, small business and in leisure activities have an emphasis on project work and ākonga emulate this through the designing, planning and manufacturing of Textiles Projects.
Ākonga will learn pattern-making and hand and machine sewing skills alongside practical tasks.
Knowledge and understanding of the functional requirements of textiles for a range of applications. Practical skills in design and manipulation of textiles through the use of appropriate technologies. The ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the properties and performance of textiles to the development and manufacture of textile items. Skills in experimentation, critical analysis and the selection of textiles for specific end-uses. Knowledge and understanding of Textile, Clothing, and Footwear Industries. An appreciation of the significance of textiles in society.
Ākonga become self-sufficient and sustainable citizens. This course leads to further study in Dress making, Fashion design and Technology Design.
Some fabrics may be required to purchase by home, Activity book and a Chromebook.
