Level 2 Outdoor Education provides ākonga with an experiential learning environment and academic pathway. Ākonga are offered an outdoor pursuits focused course.

Level 2 Outdoor Education at Ōtaki College will provide ākonga with unique experiences related to the outdoors throughout the year. Skills learned in ODE2 are built on in level 3 Outdoor Education. Level 2 Outdoor Education is also a prerequisite towards Level 3 Outdoor Education.
By participating in a range of challenging outdoor activities, ākonga will gain technical skills while learning about; risk management, leadership, group dynamics and responsible practices.
A large part of the course involves practical activities; on the river, in the bush, rock climbing and in the mountains as well as classroom theory lessons. These activities take part on the weekly afternoon activities and on overnight and out of school trips.
This course is assessed through Achievement Standards and Unit Standards. All afternoon/day trips and overnight experiences are compulsory and will assist ākonga in passing.

Standard 20157 - Use of rope systems for top-rope climbing and abseiling (internal)

Standard 431 - Navigate in good visibility on land (internal)
Standard 20121 - Demonstrate kayaking skills on Grade II whitewater (internal)
Ākonga will only require their chromebooks during theoretical work.
