When does this course run: This Year 10 Science course runs in either Semester 1 or 2.
Does it really Matter? The stuff of Chemistry: Atoms are all around us. They are the building blocks of our world and everything in it. How atoms behave and react with each other can lead to extremely different outcomes, including an appearance of nothing to devastating explosions, the production of energy for life to continue to the production of substances necessary for modern electronics.
CLICK ON THE QUESTIONS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE COURSE
This course is the beginning of learning more about the impact that atoms have on our lives and the world in which we live.
Ākonga will learn
the language of chemistry, symbols and equations
how to carry out chemically based experiments, and
how to work with chemicals safely.
The majority of this course is covered by the “material world” (Chemistry), but ākonga will also explore how Chemistry overlaps with other areas of Science such as Environmental, Biology and Geology.
This course prepares students for Year 11 Science and NCEA Level 2 and 3 Chemistry.
Course material will be supplied as part of the course.
