The objective of the course is to enable students to gain up to 19 credits towards NCEA Level 2. Students need to gain at least 10 credits to gain entrance into Level 3 classes.

Biology allows students to understand how they work at a cellular level and how all living things interact.
Ākonga will learn how genetic variation and change impacts upon the world, how protein synthesis happens starting with the genes in DNA, and how cells function as an independent entity. In addition to this students will study the comparative anatomy of different animal groups to complete one of the internals
Ākonga will learn through both theory and practical components that contribute to each standard.
Ākonga The course is assessed with three external standards and two internal standards
Standard 91153 - Carry out a practical investigation in biology (internal)
Standard 91155 - Adaptations of plants and animals to their way of life (internal)
Standard 91156 - Life processes at a cellular level (external)
Standard 91157 - Genetic variation and change (external)
Standard 91159 - Understanding Gene Expression (external)
Ākonga are encouraged to purchase either the Scipad Level 2 workbooks or the Biozone Level 2 workbooks. Students will be told which workbooks will be used at the start of the year.
